Excuse me, but I have this rather funny feeling that some of you don't think the record company, responsible for spreading the words and making products available, can be recognised. Also, the Napster thing, I thought a while back some of the folks here argue that it makes them buy more CDs instead of less, because you get progressively easier to preview a tune. While financial pluses and minuses are things to consider, in the spirit of the music, I think Napster is okay. I used to make tapes (like in "High Fidelity") for everyone else just to spread the word, right under signs that say "taping music is killing music". In fact, the other day I found out I still possess a few tapes myself, including one set with all Bunnymen songs in chronological order up to 1985. Although some folks are looking for pure weaselity by getting music for free via Napster, spreading music remains a norm in most people's lives, we're just spreading to more people more easily, that's all. In fact, I was looking high and low for a review in NME, guess what? Oh and I'd be damned if I can consider my songs sold at 7 pounds 50p. The record company could pay me based on an agreement, but with the equipment I own, the effort I put in for an art form, the desire to be perfect behind it all, you'd get my songs for free if I like you, otherwise, don't even dream you'd get them for 8p. Ya know... I've only owned a PC for just over a year and what if I didn't even have one yet???? Then what??? Does that mean I'm not worthy enough to be able to enjoy their music any more? Dammit, I just don't think you are seeing the whole picture here. Gimmemusic shouldn't be the only way to be able to hear Bunnymusic. I'll continue to support the band in any way I can because they happen to be a part of who I am. They've been a part of me for almost 1/2 of my life and I'm just really frustrated at this point. I happen to love being able to drop everything and run right down to the mall and pick up a new Cd on the first day of release!! Gimmemusic has taken all the joy and excitement out of that. I'm sorry, but that's the way I feel. I love the band, but gimme my music dammit! Red P.S. I emailed Toby this morning asking for a confirmation.... still no reply. Earlier I turned my PC on to tell you a little story, but all those Gimmegripes and Napster posts distracted me. So I'll tell you now... I'm sitting on the couch, around 9 pm, watching some Russian guy kicking ass in men's figure skating when somebunny knocked at my door. My husband answered it. I could hear a voice saying "I'm a friend of Steph's, but I came to see her mom." So I go over to the door and there's a guy about 21 years old standing there and he says to me..."At the radio station at Penn College we were cleaning out all the old vinyl and we found this... (he hands me a promo 12' of Bedbugs and Ballyhoo) I remembered you were a big fan of Echo And The Bunnymen so I thought you might like to add it to your collection!" Wow! Cool! I didn't have the heart to tell him I already had one, but it was really cool to have a kid I only briefly met one time come to my door and gimmemusic!!!!!!!! That's just so cool!
