I guess it is a Nick Cave song, >but anyone heard of that trio doing it?... the song I mean. Nope! But 'The Ship Song' is a great song!! PJ Harvey has done a bit of work with Nick, but not that one. I've never heard of the other person you mentioned. But one thing I do know is that Nick has worked with so many people live from time to time that anything is possible. Or it could just be that PJ and Johnette did it and they listed it with their Nick cave stuff. That's been known to happen. (I just typed in Johnette's name and got 55 results, but no Ship Song. Damn. If you ever see it on there again, lemme know will ya.) The thing about Napster is that you never know if you're actually going to get what you think you're downloading. I was looking for some Cohen tunes once and I found results for him and Kylie Minogue doing a Cave song, 'Where The Wild Roses Grow' and I thought "Woah...I gotta get me that one." I kinda wondered when he possibly woulda ever done THAT or WHY but I was very intrigued, I couldn't imagine what it would be like to have Cohen cover Cave, so I downloaded it and it was none other than the original studio version with Nick Cave and Kylie. Figures, but why do people do that? Let's just all start listing our Bunnymen songs under more famous names and everyone will think they're getting some rare song and will actually be getting a Bunnymen tune!!! cool. > >I know I have to get around to listening to some Nick Cave, but my first >impression of him is the 'Tower of Song' cover on that 1st Lenny tribute >album. Sounded like a cross between Mudhoney and Rev Horton Heat on a bender. That version (if you can believe this) was the very first thing I'd ever heard by Nick and I actually wanted to hear more after hearing it. In retrospect...I've NO idea why I was so fascinated by that cover.... because it cannot be compared to the magnitude of his work. Rich, being the Cohen fanatic that you are, you have to totally disreguard ever hearing that if you ever want to be able to appreciate Nick Cave. There's a story behind that cover that involves many hours of tilting the ole elbow and the band was actually drunk off their asses when they taped that live in a bar and didn't even know the order of the words and the finished piece is actually just a bit of it that was spliced together. The original went on for like EVER all out of order. At least that's what I've heard. I think I read it in books. (sorry, been feeling quilty for so many OT posts lately!) hehe. >Whereas Mac,,, just sang 'No Way to Say Goodbye" with a great reverence and >natural tone of course. Yeah well...I'm sure he was in a studio trying to do the song justice, whereas Nick was just playing around in a bar drunk off his ass. :-) Ever hear Nick's version of 'Avalanche'?? He did it early on...on his first album. It was raw, but very full of emotion. Aggressive emotion of course. I think I'm about the only Cave fan that I know of that likes it though. But I'm always in the minority, so what else is new? >I guess Mike Mooney did the guitar on that? a pretty >good cover Anyone else into the Applecraft CD these days??? Highly recommendable!! > >i'm a man on a mission, a boy with a gun, i got a picture in my pocket of the >lucky one DeEvolutionize me baby! What has happened to you while you were gone Richie boy????? I think one of Dennis' bricks musta clunked you a good one...because you seem so much more full of life these days!!!!!! Anyone else noticing this?? ;-) Later peoples!
