Just thought I'd pop in with a word or two about the Billy Bragg tour - I caught it last night and would highly recommend it, especially if you're a fan of the Wilco stuff. He drew really heavily from the Mermaid Ave. albums, but through in the old fav.s, too ("New England," "Greetings To The New Brunette," "Sexuality," and "There Is Power In A Union" were the most notable.) Show was nearly two hours - most songs done with his band, The Blokes, which includes the keyboardist from Small Faces (can't remember his name - and a handfull of acoustic songs as the first encore. The only criticism I've got is of the Blokes - they were OK but I didn't think they were all that great.... I think I'd prefer Billy on his own. No topless Zia this time though, sorry guys....but what a fro on that drummer!! wow! ;-) Thought I was back in the 70's there for a while. Total trippy flash back! Another "cult" band forever like our beloved bunnymen. The thing is that the original singer was okay and had his quirky little niche but most fans abandoned wov when andy prieboy came in even though he is a better writer and singer than the original guy. Kinda like how some people flat out refused to listen to Noel Burke,,, not a McCulloch, but still pretty good. the closed minds lose out finally someone else who digs moreland's guitar work. The Pretty & Twisted album shouldn't be too difficult to find. However there is another band that Marc started a couple years ago: Department of Crooks,,, it is absolutely fantastic The guitar is way out there and it's that creepy, seedy wall of voodoo sound with a bitta downtown vegas thrown in there. and the great old themes: Hollywood the 5th time, presleyland, Whiskey and cadillacs, living in New York city and Paris, and taking anxiety meds, bettin on the horses with cherokee etc etc - ----- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe seven-seas or unsubscribe seven-seas-digest to get off the digest And here we thought Mattel was happy just cutting Ken's nads off: http://anon.free.anonymizer.com/http://www.openpgp.net/censorship/index2.html ------------------------------ End of seven-seas-digest V5 #326 ******************************** ======================================================================== Please send any questions or comments about the list to seven-seas-owner@smoe.org
