I've been hassling freeserve/wanadoo/orange about this And I finally got this reply after several others ................ ( see below .. and what I think they are saying is that someone who has your address in their address book has a virus or Trojan thing or whatever .. and it is using the addresses in their address book to send out lots of spam/junk emails .. and the ones that don't actually get anywhere find there way back to us as undelivered mails ... Got it ???????????// Dear Louise, Thank you for your email. Please be aware that some email viruses will spoof email addresses. What this means is that if your address was in someone else address book, and that person was infected. Then virus emails could have been sent out from their location, spoofing your address as the sender. Therefore any rejection email regarding the virus would be returned to you. Unfortunately this 'spoofing' is outside the control of the orange service, and there is no advice we can offer to solve this problem other than changing your email address by registering a new account. A possible temporary fix can be achieved by using WebMail filters to direct spoofed emails to your delete folder. At present almost all spam sent to all Orange addresses is sent using a prefix different to the one you actually use. Because of this the sorting filters found in Webmail can easily separate off spam, redirecting these to the deleted mail folder in webmail where they will be permanently deleted after 7 days. Note: if you use additional email addresses (use more than one prefix) please reply for an extended guide. To do this: Enter Webmail Click on My Settings Choose 'Set up Filters' On the left of the screen which appears: Enter a name for the filter e.g filter prefix In the first drop down menu beside 'Apply if' select 'TO' In the 2nd drop down menu select 'DOES NOT CONTAIN' Enter your full correct email address in the field below (or alternatively just the part before the @ sign) Select 'DELETED ITEMS' in the drop down box beside'Move to' Click on the 'add' button on the right. Your new filter will now appear in the list box on the right. Once you are satisfied click OK on the bottom right to save and action this filter. If you have any further queries then please do not hesitate to get in contact with us again.
