Liverpool Music Week 2006 is the fourth annual event of its kind in the city and this year boasts home-grown talent with sets from Echo & The Bunnymen, Shack, Hot Club De Paris, the 747s, Pedantics and newlysigned band The Neon Hearts. Mercury Music Prize nominee Edgar Jones will also play with his band the Joneses. The "week", which actually takes place over 10 days, starts on Saturday, November 4, with various concerts and performances held every night of the festival. More venues have signed up to the event this year, including Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, the University of Liverpool University and a special opening concert at Liverpool's Carling Academy. Hardman Street's Bumper Club will also host some of the best acts in the city at the moment, including The Aeroplanes, Alterkicks, The Drella's, The Prelude, Son of Dave, The Idiot Rate and Dom Newton. Gigs will also be held at Parr Street Studios' bar 3345 with music from local acoustic acts. As well as rock and indie bands, this year's festival sees a more diverse offering from different acts including samba, reggae and hip hop. A spokeswoman for the Philharmonic Hall said: "We're really excited to be a part of Liverpool Music Week for the first time this year. "We're presenting two gigs which we hope will enhance the world and contemporary music strand. "An outstanding double bill features Rio's Seu Jorge - a major player in Brazil's explosive new music scene, alongside Afroreggae who fuse samba, reggae and hip hop into great dance music." Organisers have spent around nine months arranging the line-up for the festival which includes top names as well as national acts. Mike Deane, managing director of Liverpool Music Week, said: "Liverpool is an amazing city that built its foundations on creativity and entrepreneurship. Liverpool Music Week is exactly what this city needs. "We book headliners we really like, rather than who we think will bring people through the door. We just don't fill our festival with 'hype' bands. "There may be some you've never heard of, but you'll see many are specialists in their particular field." Mr Deane added: "It's so good to have successful Liverpool bands such as Hot Club De Paris and 747s come back and play a homecoming as part of the festival. "There is a huge diverse scene in Liverpool and, with the solid basis of local acts like Tramp Attack and 28 Costumes, we have been able to look at bigger bands to take the festival up a level. "The most fulfilling thing for me this year has been booking legends Shack to do a unique intimate 'unplugged' show to open 2006. It's the full band - just on acoustic guitars." ===================================================================== Bunnymen Online Presence: http://www.bunnymenlist.com * http://www.bunnymen.info http://www.bunnymen.com * http://www.fotolog.net/sgtfuzz/ http://bunnymen.nexuswebs.net/ * http://www.angelfire.com/wy2/discog/ * ====================================================================== ------------------------------ End of seven-seas-digest V5 #264 ********************************
