They're not arty, ephemeral or with any kind of too-cool-for-school mystique - it's just deceptively simple stuff chucked straight out at you. I also love the interaction between the band members and also with the audience. To me that's sort of a joy but I can also see that it smacks of being a bit pub-band-ish and that might well be one of the factors stopping them move things up another knotch. It could be they overplay the leftwing narky working class hero what-you-see-is-what-you-get thing just a tad. On the other hand it could the very stance that slowly but surely expands on their frighteningly hard-core Springsteen-esque following. No disrespect to Amsterdam but it's only when you see other bands that you can appreciate the highly professional and polished way that Bunnymen shows are prepared for and put together, even down to the right number of olives in Mac's on-stage Creole Scream. PS: Lightning Seeds are brilliant. Jollification must be one the best pop albums ever. In fact Ian Broudie would be just the man to help Amsterdam's progress. Mr. Broudie was probably a major factor in the massive radio play The Coral got for their first two lps and no harm in that as far as I'm concerned. > > Message Received: Jul 18 2006, 05:01 PM > > From: "Raj" > > To: seven-seas@smoe.org > > Cc: > > Subject: RE: seven-seas amsterdam record lp @ soho's borderline today > > > > Actually very disappointed with the gig and I left well before they >finished > > (don't often do that).
