So I saw him for free a few times. And while I agree with your opinion on his impact on the music scene, his shows were always very professional and had a great sound. Always did a ton of Dylan covers. In fact, Dylan was standing to the side of the stage on year circa the 70's on year at the fair, obviously surrounded by "his people." He never did any teen idol music, it was always folk rock, ala Dlyan, the Eagles, Fogelberg, etc. So Chris, as usual, I agree with your assessment, but having seen him, I'll give him an A for effort and having cool friends! To me, though, his music certainly had little/nothing to do with rock and roll (his and Fabian's, etc. almost devoured it in its infancy) and, in my opionion, his relevance to this list is akin to that of, say, Kenny Rogers or Dan Fogelberg. The fact that I personally find his music reprehensible whitebread creampuffery and I think his sons Gunner and Yahoo (or whatever) are a coupla yodeling rodeo clowns continuing that tradition is purely subjective. As usual, I was just mouthing off . . . well, cos I half mean it, and I think it's fuckin funny. I'm sure if I sat down and listened to a full album of his stuff, I'd be surprised. Did he do "Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain"? That's a good one. -CA rossnteka@aol.com wrote: Chris, In Rick's defense, I live in Orange County, CA and he played the fair here several years.
