I like "Personal Jesus", "Walking in my shoes", "condemnation" & "Enjoy the silence". I believe it has a dark sinister sound almost Bunnymenesque but obviously with increased use of synthesisers. I think if you merged the Bunnymen sound with Depeche Mode you can create a new sound. The best remix of a modern day indie sound has to be "The price that we pay" (unreleased band version) off Hurricane #1 anthology. I feel that DM have a very erie sound you could image a club playing the tunes in darkened rooms. I remember going to planet x in Liverpool with my brother & his wife in the early nineties it was empty & we only stayed for a brief time. But I could imagine that would have been a great environment for sounds. When I lived in Liverpool I used to love Cassablancas nightclub especially downstairs. It wasn't my cup of tea the hip hop upstairs but I like the darkend rooms and almost mysteriousness of the place. It would be great to have clubs play stuff like this & "Spong" do a great version of "Venus in Furs" (Velvet Underground). sorry to go off at a tangent but I'd love a new scene. all the best, Jonathan P. When I heard the intro to A Pain That I'm Used To (track 1) I almost cringed thinking "please don't let this be NIN". However from there the song improved into recognizable DM. Fortunately they never get as industrial as NIN & I have to admit that the single Precious reminds me a lot of Violator. > > On 1st listen I immediately thought Enjoy The Silence. It definately has that feel to it & if all the folks who loved Violator for the Personal Jesus, ETS, World In My Eyes & Policy Of Truth > hear this I'm sure they'll buy it. Nothing's Impossible also reminds me of Violator, tho more subtle than Precious. > > All in all a very good album. I agree it's definately an album that requires mutiple listenings & I just haven't had the time to listen to it more than twice thus far. As have made myself a copy with the SW single tacked on to take to Richmond with me will definately give it mutiple spins in the next 2 weeks. > > > > looloo wrote: > what are you thinking about the new DM cd charles ?? > > I only just got it .. > > and have to say that I like it ..... :-) > > looloo > > > --------------------------------- > Yahoo! I would have only been 13 years old in '87 living near Blacon in Chester. The first time I went out in Liverpool was when I was 17 years old in 1991 saw "the strairs" in the flying picket & went to Flanaghans apple. My dad used to work in Halewood so I always enjoyed going over to Liverpool. The Pear Head and the natural history museum. We used to get the bus in from Halewood it was great. I moved there myself in 1994 and lived their for three years. I remember some great places when I lived in Leeds too - although the "rave" scene was prominant (I joined in a little bit in my first year there but it just wasn't my thing really). The chocolate factory used to be great their on a monday night & I still remember what a great time I had there with friends. I used to walk around little London & it imprinted images on my brain. all the best Jonathan Sweeney. - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Steve Griffiths" To: Sent: Monday, October 31, 2005 10:34 PM Subject: Re: seven-seas OT: Depeche Mode > It was exactly the right environment - you should have been there back in > '86 / '87 when it was rammed to the doors every weekend. > > Steve G. > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "jswee" > To: > > ...I remember going to planet x in Liverpool with my brother & > > his wife in the early nineties it was empty & we only stayed for a brief > > time.
