Indeed, it must be tough being Bob Dylan. Matt, I wrote a reply literally a few mins ago, and said virtually the same, word for word, but just thought, fuck it, why bother and deleted it before sending. But wtf, as we're here, I must admit that the sycophantic frenzy that greets new releases, news etc stifles proper debate and conversation. Must be the West Country water !! Regarding the new album, all I'm gonna say ( because of the above )is there's a few great tracks, some good tracks, and 3 dodgy ones IMO.. Not bad considering it's only half the band that created the mighty albums. Having said that, it still ain't a patch on E-Fix ( I actually liked the heavy production and grungy feel to it ). I'm sure they're not all sycophantic. If others don't, it's a disappointment for them. One mans meat etc..... I haven't heard it all yet so can't comment but I doubt I will like it as much as the first four albums and Electrafixion. I think it will be better than Flowers which was a bit half finished maybe. I like Stormy Weather a lot, not sure about What If We Are - maybe that's a bit too syrupy - jury still out on that one. I've only heard In the Margins live and it was good. From the clips I've heard I can't wait to hear Of A Life, Scissors in the Sand, Siberia and Parthenon Drive in full. I think the others will be ok but not great but we'll see. As for the Electrafixion production - when I said I didn't like it, I meant the thin tinny trebble sound (not enough bass/depth to it). It's better listening on headphones to this one. I love the fact that it's grungy and heavy too. IMO every album they have produced has had some merit to it so it's great they're still doing it. I guess some of Mac's lyrics are very personnel these days and that's obviously the way he wants to write but I wish he would throw in a few of the old style obscure/mad/clever lyrics he used to coz I miss them.
