Siberia, sadly, is devoid of the passion that propelled the cryptic wit and scale of '80s landmarks like Heaven Up Here. With Hugh Jones producing for the first time since '81, there's nothing 'wrong' with these mid-tempo songs. Yet, McCulloch's misplaced his mystique, and resembles a pub singer with an over-extended tab, while Sergeant's guitar lines settle lazily at long-drawn borders. Having inspired the best, they seem estranged from the muse themselves. Must've been deadline time 'round Uncut. No, Siberia doesn't sound like Heaven Up Here. No great shakes there, One could have said that about Porcupine and Ocean Rain 20 whatever years ago. But saying it's devoid of passion is ludicrous. That's like saying Leonard Cohen is devoid of lyricism, or U2 is devoid of "anthemism." Regarding this review, I think Mr. Roberts might just be a little short on engaging and informed criticism. - -Chris Adams Kristin Smith wrote: > Siberia, sadly, is devoid of the passion that propelled the cryptic wit and scale of '80s landmarks like Heaven Up Here. > Well, 'passion' is a subjective quality, but it seems to me the album contains a great deal of it. And to be fair, the labels, A&R, etc don't really give a crap whether it's a good or bad review, so long as they get a review.. It means that people are talking about it. Obviously the artists concerned care, but the business end doesn't care. Sad but true in a lot of cases. Stu - --- Kristin Smith wrote: > Who decides on the rating?
