Maybe I'm cynical but the clips on bunnymen.com aren't,,, well that great to me. I thought hearing 'In the Margins' was a good start as it reminded me of a classic NLF/The Game type song with good vocals, crescendos and lyrics. The rest kind of comes off as either a wannabee greatest of the bunnymen or just flat out MAC solo retreads with the same type of singing and wordplaying since the grey album. Mr. Seargent does sound good at a few moments but this is hardly Hughes ' Heaven up Here ' material or anything dark, magical, psychedelic or classically bunny-psychological.in fact it sounds like great AOR music for those who grew up with the bunnies. I'm fine with that. I listened to slideling yesterday and I would have thought it crap in the 80s but it's quite good for sitting back and just well remembering a bit and feeling one's age. There's some quality tracks on that. So my question for those who have heard it. What camp is this in? Are the clips not representative of the whole songs? Is there more to this? Or is it just more in the vein of the grey/evergreen/slideling period as it sounds..i already have those cds...i always thought if mac could have been bothered a bit and riskier with his voice even if it cracks then Flowers would have been the best work they've done in ages..so I guess I'm more in the dark, bluesy, psych camp then the pop for reference.I don't need to be pleased but I'm tighter with my pennies nowadays... Thanks...it's been a while I've been here. jon ===================================================================== Bunnymen Online Presence: http://www.bunnymenlist.com * http://www.bunnymen.info * http://www.bunnymen.com * http://www.fotolog.net/sgtfuzz/ * http://bunnymen.nexuswebs.net/ * http://www.angelfire.com/wy2/discog/ * http://www.softskull.com/detailedbook.php?isbn=1-887128-89-6 * http://www.neonhalos.blogspot.com ====================================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Aug 2005 08:31:45 -0400 From: Brian Andersen Subject: Re: seven-seas Fw: Siberia reviews Well just as a frame of reference.... The "classic" Bunnymen were over almost 20 years ago. The post Evergreen era has now almost surpassed the length of time the Bunnymen were together in the 80's as a recording band. Siberia is definately more of an Evergreen sound with a few nods to the older sound. I for one do not want to hear the Bunnymen revert back to their older sound. I think that would sound forced since it is clear that Mac does not sing or write lyrics like he did when he was in his 20's. Nor do the write songs as they did. Just my 2 cents.
