BUT, it obviously means a lot to McNabb, and he has kept me going for YEARS with great gigs, releases, etc whilst waiting for the next EATB release.... Below is an update he posted to the message board today regarding his new single Let The Young Girl Do What She Wants To out next week..... Help the guy out with an 89p download next week.. Anyway, Thanks for reading...... Stu Oh, and if you fancy buying a copy http://www.townsend-records.co.uk/product.php?pId=10001213&pType=music Date: Tue, 10 May 2005 23:08:16 -0000 From: "gentlemanadventurer" Subject: Update Hi there, thought I'd let you know what was going on...my thoughts so far etc... The familiar "McNabb Wall" seems to be firmly in place...the resistance to LTYGDWSWT seems to stretch across the board in the same fashion as my last single release nine years ago. Plays are few and far between...I haven't heard any disparaging comments yet although "poppier than we'd expect" has popped up a couple of times. People appear to have their minds made up about *IMc*...what this really means is that the media expect me to behave like their set-in-stone-opinon of me (if they have one), and when I veer off it, they cry out in surprise that they expected me to be more like their idea of me...which enables them to sit on the fence...the result being...well, no airplay. It's fairly clear the LTYGDWSWT certainly SOUNDS like a hit record, unfortunately radio programmers don't listen to the music, they look at the name underneath the track...this is the true governing fact of airplay. Would the song be on the radio if it was a recording by Ronan Keating or the Libertines or the Bravery? Of course it would. Keep requesting it. Download it from karmadownloads.com on the day of release. EVEN IF YOU"VE ALREADY BOUGHT A HARD COPY. For 89p we will pick up a few hundred more sales which will send the record chartbound. IF IT'S IN THE CHARTS THEY WILL HAVE TO PLAY IT. AND THEN WE WIN. This isn't just about gettting your hero in the charts...it's a war fought by music fans who don't want to be dictated to. Q magazine will not be reviewing the new album as the reviews editor "doesn't like it". This is little more than musical fascism. After being reminded by my PR that I once featured in "The Best Albums Released In Q's Lifetime" and they should show more respect, she was told that Q was more interested in appealing to a "younger market" in future. Mojo magazine continue to ignore me and will not be carrying a review. It's annoying but not unexpected. You can always write to these publications and complain. You don't have to agree with them. WORD like the album, have reviewed it (out tomorrow) and feature a track on their cover mount CD. They don't care who buys they're magazine they just want people to read it. The John Martyn tour is a godsend to me as I get to play my music to the general public..where they can make their minds up fot themselves, cut out the middleman and not have their entertainment decided for them by people in London who get their music free. It's doubtful that Oasis are loved by everyone who works for Mojo, but they're on the cover because people buy their records and will buy magazines with them on the cover. The same goes for Coldplay who sound like the oldest band in the world after only three albums. Onwards! Ian.
