I watched U2 at roundhay park in Leeds (1994) on the Zooropa tour & it was quite amazing. I loved the songs at the time & especially the small acoustic set they played. I often enjoy running through a few U2 songs from Actung Baby on my guitar at home. However, my brother-in-law mentioned he could get U2 tickets for B#70 to see them at twickenham. I think that is a lot of money so I declined, I also get just as much of a buzz going to an open mic night where I see ten different people playing either cover versions or there own material. If you hear someone with a beautiful voice for the first time it sends a chill down the spine or a brilliant lyric. The Beatles gave up touring on the Let it Be album I belief. When the Edge said "U2 are the worst bar band in the world. The reason we developed the unique > style that we have is because that was the only way forward, it was > the approach that suited our rather schizophrenic and uneven talents." > The use of the word schizophrenic is interesting I did voluntary work in a psychiatric hospital for a number of years and schizophrenia is not just dual personality. Ideas that flow through the brain when you are schizophrenic are disjointed and flow off at tangents in times of great stress. Some of the most interesting stories can be heard from people within hospitals. I have friends who are by polar effective disorder or schizophrenic. I think to be of an Irish, Jamacan, african or Eastern european etc.. background in a British society can often create conflict within the brain in the fact that identity is difficult to achieve. Some people of mixed race or religious background can are very talented for example Bob Marley, Eagle eye cherry, Jimi Hendrix, Phil Lynott and numerous other people. I think perhaps with a father or mother of a different cultural and religious background it is easier because you have to choose your own beliefs and the way forward for yourself. Black people generation after generation with find it harder to assimilate into society because of penotypical differences (colour of skin), you can't see a second or third generation Irishman.
