I'll have to rummage around and listen to his albums. Another great lyrisist is Lou Reed and I still love listening to "Sweet Jane", "Lisa says" and "Rock and roll" (Velvet Underground). A little know band I saw in salisbury called "Flipron" have really bizarre lyrics and are worth a listen. Recent bands I have enjoyed listening to are Hurricane #1 (disbanded), Kasabian and Mull Historical Society. But I always come in from work turn on the Bunnymen dim the lights in my attic room and chill. To me the Boo Radleys, The Bunnymen, Stone Roses and Primal Scream are my memories of growing up. If you like something a little different try listening to Buena Vista Social club or Compay Segundo - really good Cuban Music.
