Yeah, I noticed that too.... more like 'make a slight dent on the music industry's conscious when namechecked by Chris Martin.' ===================================================================== Bunnymen Online Presence: http://www.bunnymenlist.com * http://www.bunnymen.info * http://www.bunnymen.com * http://www.fotolog.net/sgtfuzz/ * http://bunnymen.nexuswebs.net/ * http://www.angelfire.com/wy2/discog/ * ====================================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 13 Feb 2005 10:05:22 +1300 From: "Kristin Smith" Subject: [1 of 2] Re: seven-seas Aack! It is old hat. Here is another interview (from 2000), that I came across this morning. [Part 1 of 2] http://members.tripod.com/~WRIGHTPRODUCTIONS/echo.html Echo And The Bunnymen With Plenty Of Flowers And What Nots Updated: 09/2/04 At 43 lead singer Ian McCulloch is still writing strong songs and touring. Echo and The Bunny recently sold out the show at The House Of Blues in Orange County on December 8th, 2001. Had a chat on the phone with Ian McCulloch and herebs how it went. Highwire Daze: With so many albums out and touring so much both here in the America, Japan and across Europe, why isn't there an official Echo And The Bunnymen Live CD? Ian McCulloch: Actually we will finally have a live CD and DVD coming out in the middle or late part of February 2002. Spin Art records will be releasing the CD in the U.S.A. HD: Any surprises on it? Ian: I don't know about surprises, but the song Do It Clean isn't on it. We felt that we have covered that enough already. We would have to pay out at least a million people just for the royalties to record the song live. It was like it was expected but since it had all ready been out so we didn't put it on. It is full of a great cross section of our live shows and songs. Sure people will say that things are missing on here but we can't put on everything cause then it would be a good eight hours long. It sounds fantastic and really rockin'. HD: Guess Will Sergeant is playing really good guitar these days? Mac: Yeah, it is really exciting. It's not polished but sounds really great also raw too. This really shows on both our new record Flowers and on the new live recordings. HD: So when was the Live CD recorded? Mac: It was done in our home town of Liverpool. It was recorded in front of 400 people for two nights in a very small venue. We didn't record it in a big place. With that being what it is, I think this is better because it sounds like it was recorded in a big place but it really wasn't. Even some of the slow songs were done a little bit faster for this live recording. This gave the slower songs a much harder mix to them. For me personally I think Echo And The Bunnymen live was always better sounding than our record. We kept it as raw as we could and even mixed it quickly to keep it fresh and still have the raw sound kept in the front. We tried to keep it mixed just how a live gig show would be for us. HD: You came and headlined through America for the initial release of Flowers on Spin Art Records. This time you have been teamed up with The Psychedelic Furs. Who set up this tour? Mac: The Psychedelic Fursb Richard Butler came to us early on during the first tour to do it then but we wanted to first do our own headlining tour of sorts. They then came to us to see about going out again and we wanted to go back out some more. So they put the tour together and it sounded right so we decided to go ahead and do it. With Will Sergeant electronic keyboard computer solo project Glide, we all agreed this combination would really work well together for touring. Of course we are obviously the better band (chuckle) but with this fix and mix it is really going to be a good tour in America. We are currently headed out for our European leg of this tour but the Psychedelic Furs won't be going with us. However, Glide will still be the opening act and from Liverpool opening up for us as the middle supporting act will be Magic Alex. Magic Alex toured and opened for us during our tour in 1999. We will still be headlining of course (chuckled). The tour through Europe starts February 2nd and ends March 29th HD: If you had the chance during this tour to ask The Psychedelic Furs to cover one of your songs what song would you have them do? Mac: It would depend if I wanted them to do a bad cover or to do a good one. I think our song Seven Seas would be a good song for them to do a good cover of. HD: Do you have a favorite song that you would like to hear the furs do while on tour with you? Mac: Yeah I like the Psychedelic Furs song We Love You b that is a great one. India I have always liked too. The Psychedelics Furs very first album was absolutely great. HD: On Flowers, you talk a lot about God. What is your feelings about religion and God? Or, was this just something in general you wanted to sing about? 0Mac: I have always kind of used God or heaven or some kind of spiritual thing to use as a metaphor. It is a force sometimes of space if where you want to be in life. I still don't know. I think that if he still does exist if he is the one with the white beard. Rather hoping that he is not some matter physical being you can't see. I want him to be sitting on a cloud and riding it with a riffle in it. HD: In the current box set out called Crystal Days, was there something left out that you personally wanted to have in it? Mac: All of our underground songs. And missing is all of our Doors songs. It covers most of the songs that I respect. We left it up to someone else to put together. Someone over at Rhino records who was a big fan of ours put it together. I just felt if Will and I sat down trying to agree on that many songs we would still be trying to figure that out even still now (chuckles). It is actually a pretty good representation of our music work that shows us up to 1999 and covers still the edge of us too. HD: Are you personally working on any more solo albums for your self? Mac: Yeah. I have been recording a new record in between these two Bunnymen tours. It should be finished and out by the end of May 2002 or by no later than June 2002. Once I am able to get back into America I will then be able to get all of the backing vocals done. I have been putting the guitars and main vocals on it during the January. There will be some great songs and special gems on it. I hope it is what people expect from me. HD: Do you think that you will be possibly tour for your next solo record? Mac: Well yeah. I don't think that I am going to do it like the Bunnymen tour but instead break it down and only do some cities. HD: On your album Flowers there is a song called Hide And Seek. Is there something your hiding or is there something that you are seeking? Mac: A little bit of both. In the song I am hiding from jack oblanterns. And I am always hiding from Jeckel. (chuckle) HD: As Executive Producer, is anything missing off of Flowers? Mac: Not really. I think it is really crisp. It is an authentic original Echo And The Bunnymen kind of a sounding to it. Maybe there isn't a big radio hit but it could be missing. Missing like a Killing Moon song or something like that. It sticks out as a whole complete record. Maybe missing is also that one song that describes the album. We are going to stride harder for that with the next record. Like maybe having another Cutter or Over The Wall kind of a song somewhere on it. HD: You title for this newest record is called Flowers. What is your favorite kind of flower? Mac: They come out just after winter is ending. This is when the year really starts for me. So I like the daisy or the daffodil. This flower announces that spring is coming. ===================================================================== Bunnymen Online Presence: http://www.bunnymenlist.com * http://www.bunnymen.info * http://www.bunnymen.com * http://www.fotolog.net/sgtfuzz/ * http://bunnymen.nexuswebs.net/ * http://www.angelfire.com/wy2/discog/ * ====================================================================== ------------------------------ End of seven-seas-digest V4 #40 *******************************
