Mac: No. We are in this together. HD: Explain how your sound now compares to two albums ago with What Are You Going To Do With Your Life? Mac: It is more like me and Will are now forging the songs actually together again. We sit down with two guitars and a drum machine just like how Echo And The Bunnymen first started. At that beginning time then four months later Les cam along. Then Pete finally came in on full drums almost a year later. The difference with Flowers and What Are You Going To Do With Your Life is that I wrote most of the whole thing acoustic at home by myself. Then I finally took it over to Will. Will might of then had just wanted to leave, which I could understand totally so to the point in which he though I had done a solo album just for me. So I think What Are You Going To Do With Your Life is more of a solo thing to where Flowers isn't at all. HD: Since you and Will make up the band now. What do you think of your old band mates now? Mac: Well Pete died, but he was one the best drummers of his time. He was a lovely bloke and very funny guy. Les also very fantastic on bass as well. Les chose though that he had to be a home bob these days because of getting divorced and having to look after his kids. So unfortunately he had to leave just recently with the band, There has been no remorse either at all. But there is still room if he want to return some time. HD: An Eternity Turns is another song off of Flowers. Where did the song come from and what are you trying to say? Mac: It should stick out in plain English that I wanted this album to be more of a self-explanatory record. I wanted it to show that even after 43 years I am still at an emotionally and spiritual eternal crossroads. Not knowing which way to go. While yet eternity turns onward. I am still going and heading forward but not really sure whether to go or not. HD: Maybe that guy you talked about in the beard on the clouds might help you with giving you some kind of direction. Mac: He is never there or in when I call him. I did leave a message for him though on his answering machine. (laughs) HD: What is your personal favorite song off of Flowers? Mac: The song called Buried Alive. I like it the most. The lyrics to me are the most personal. They are the most resonant on the whole album I think. It is about living half of your life or being half the way home with your life. 10 years ago I wasn't ready to sing a song or write a song like this one, but now I was ready and did so. I like that fact that it doesn't resolve my position in my life. It is more honest I think than the way I actually comfort the idea of being half way through with my life. HD: Beside great guitar playing what keep your friendship with Will going? Mac: We love what we do. We really get along great now. We kind of need each other too, because there really isn't anyone else that we can trust who is out there. We feel that we are a great partnership. Making songs work is a great treat for us. This makes us something special. Will thinks the same way too about this. It is kind of fun now searching for the best within us that is better than our past to where we have come from to write now with it -- to make songs even better. When we are in the studio or on stage the work really excels through Will's guitar. Therebs usually nothing real deep that comes from out of him. He is such a really nice bloke and very talented even without his guitar. HD:I heard you did a record of a Beatles song? Mac: Yeah, Ticket To Ride. It is a good version. It came out last July. HD: So on this tour are you going to do Ticket To Ride live? Mac: I doubt it. Unless maybe in the future b you never know. Thanks to Spin Art record for this great chat with Ian. Look forward to the new Live record and DVD out soon. Don't forget Ian will have a new solo record out this coming summer too. Echo ANd The Bunny Men are currently on tour and will be playing two shows here in Sounthern California at the end of September 2004. ===================================================================== Bunnymen Online Presence: http://www.bunnymenlist.com * http://www.bunnymen.info * http://www.bunnymen.com * http://www.fotolog.net/sgtfuzz/ * http://bunnymen.nexuswebs.net/ * http://www.angelfire.com/wy2/discog/ * ====================================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 12 Feb 2005 23:19:44 +0000 From: Rajesh Patel Subject: RE: seven-seas Ian McNabb Friday in Milton Keynes [area] Damn, might have gone along if i'd have known.
