The White Stripes comparison is obvious (two-piece, Blues-esque), there's a dash of 'Psychocandy' in there as opposed to the the Mary Chain, as a whole, and the Hope Sanoval was just me being lazy. Tracks from their recent album are available from their website...google the URL...worth 5 minutes of anyone's time. - -- Barry ===================================================================== Bunnymen Online Presence: http://www.bunnymenlist.com * http://www.bunnymen.info * http://www.bunnymen.com * http://www.fotolog.net/sgtfuzz/ * http://bunnymen.nexuswebs.net/ * http://www.angelfire.com/wy2/discog/ * ====================================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Dec 2004 21:15:00 -0600 (CST) From: amyr@jump.net (Amy Moseley Rupp) Subject: Re: seven-seas Albums of the year? > And, for me, Interpol's "Antics" worked in a very similar way to their > debut in so much as there is nothing spectacular on the first couple of > plays _but_ there are 2 or 3 tracks that call you back to it and during > those re-visits, the rest of the album gets a hold of you. I dunno.... it's getting tired after a few million listens. Not sure they ought to have won the Merc Prize, but.... > Delays "Faded Seaside Glamour" ; nothing new or outstanding but oh-so > irritatingly catchy... Abso-fuckin'-lutely.... I have posted to villiers-terrace that "Nearer Than Heaven" is a perfect pop slice of summery pie .... it just doesn't get any better. Amazingly good live as well; and very very nice boys, very sincere and concerned for ones so young. No pretence at all. Southampton's claim to fame. (I've a live recording of them here in Austin if you don't mind me nattering *between songs* to the many out-of-towners here for the ACL festival.) And as I've posted to VT, both Muse's _Absolution_ and Snow Patrol's _Final Straw_ were released here in March of 2004 so they count on my list and are at the top ;-) I love Joanna Newsom but she is *VERY* eclectic. If you don't appreciate intricate lyrics and orchestral harp, stay away. Her voice is even more an acquired taste than Bob Dylan's. Despite all of the bad things that have happened this year (and keep on happening.... please nothing more before tomorrow night, the tsunami is horrible).... there was some good music made. ===================================================================== Bunnymen Online Presence: http://www.bunnymenlist.com * http://www.bunnymen.info * http://www.bunnymen.com * http://www.fotolog.net/sgtfuzz/ * http://bunnymen.nexuswebs.net/ * http://www.angelfire.com/wy2/discog/ * ====================================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Dec 2004 22:42:10 -0600 (CST) From: amyr@jump.net (Amy Moseley Rupp) Subject: seven-seas OT: US peeps give today.... tomorrow's next year > http://www.oxfam.org.uk/what_you_can_do/give_to_oxfam/donate/asiaquake1204.htm Stu posted this on the 27th December, but I wanted to remind y'all that if you live in the US and are fortunate enough to write off charitable contributions on your taxes (or KNOW some people who are) PLEASE donate today. You can then write it off immediately as soon as you file your taxes in January (or if you're like me July... ;-)). If you've been wanting to help, now's the time, especially if you feel the US needs to be aware of and *help* the entire world. Amy (if you Brits have Yank friends remind them as well...... charitable donations must be made by 31st December in order to write them off for the year's taxes) ===================================================================== Bunnymen Online Presence: http://www.bunnymenlist.com * http://www.bunnymen.info * http://www.bunnymen.com * http://www.fotolog.net/sgtfuzz/ * http://bunnymen.nexuswebs.net/ * http://www.angelfire.com/wy2/discog/ * ====================================================================== ------------------------------ End of seven-seas-digest V3 #537 ********************************
