I am also a Christian (Episcopalian, the Anglican church in America). Please note that I said "conservative fundamentalist Christian." There is a real blood lust here in Texas for executing criminals -- some of whom are innocent, amongst fundamentalist Christians. Even the Catholic church has only recently half-heartedly begun to be against the death penalty, despite claiming only God has the right to begin and end life in the pro-life/abortion/euthansia debate. > I've also seen every Echo/Electrafixion/Mac Solo gig in Southern California since the first gig at the Whiskey. I was wrong to switch subjects in the same email. I did it to perhaps insert some music-related content. In no way did I mean that Christians aren't fans of pop/rock/punk/metal/you-name-it music, or have it in for musicians. There ARE some that do -- the fundamentalists who have gotten WalMart to produce edited versions of CDs, which have been cleansed of content offensive to conservative Christians. The combination of any religion with someone with a closed mind is very dangerous. Nearly all religions (but not quite) teach some level of intolerance for non-believers -- whether the intolerance is limited to the objectionable behaviour, is extended to hate the non-believer, or is effected into law through a theocracy -- is a matter of the *level* of intolerance. So -- I wouldn't go see Marilyn Manson, but I wouldn't petition my city council to not give a permit for the concert. ===================================================================== Bunnymen Online Presence: http://www.bunnymenlist.com * http://www.bunnymen.info * http://www.bunnymen.com * http://www.fotolog.net/sgtfuzz/ * http://bunnymen.nexuswebs.net/ * http://www.angelfire.com/wy2/discog/ * ====================================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Dec 2004 12:45:15 -0600 (CST) From: amyr@jump.net (Amy Moseley Rupp) Subject: Re: seven-seas Killing Crue > Jerry Falwell is one of the worst. But they (the fundies) say the same of us -- that we are too liberal and that we therefore cannot be Christian. It's rather like being told you aren't American if you don't support Bush and the war in Iraq. I think people who can't tolerate democracy and divergent viewpoints are rather un-American. Thus the polarisation into groups of "we are the true Christians/Americans and you're not." Sigh. ===================================================================== Bunnymen Online Presence: http://www.bunnymenlist.com * http://www.bunnymen.info * http://www.bunnymen.com * http://www.fotolog.net/sgtfuzz/ * http://bunnymen.nexuswebs.net/ * http://www.angelfire.com/wy2/discog/ * ====================================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Dec 2004 19:02:11 +0000 (GMT) From: Stu Bird Subject: Re: seven-seas Killing Crue That's great, and I'm sure that most of you Christians/religious people think likewise. It's just a shame that the Christian running your country doesn't/didn't think the same about the 15000 or so Iraqui civiliians that have died since his ordered invasion of that country.. To come to think about it.. For a man who is supposed to be so into the Pro-Life movement, he has a shite track record.. --- RossNTeka@aol.com wrote: > I'm a Christian and get no kick out of anybodys > death. > > Sorry if that kills your stereotype. > > I've also seen every Echo/Electrafixion/Mac Solo gig > in Southern California since the first gig at the > Whiskey. > > I was a Christian then, too. We were touring through Utah summer 2002 and there is a video chain that advertises family movies -- every movie they rent has had all references to violence, profanity and nudity cut out of the tape. I guess they are famous for 20 minute episodes of the Sopranos.
