I think Ian Dury had something to do with it, as did a young Joe Strummer (the 101'ers) and Dr. Feelgood, which was probably the most popular band of this style. - --CHris A. Was the latter the Summer Sundae thing? I must admit to never having heard of Sham 69 until another friend raised them as a punk influence, yet another friend then described them as "pubbish" punk.... (me still scratching head) so I'll have to give them a listen. I've sort of caught up with the present but not the past! ===================================================================== Bunnymen Online Presence: http://www.bunnymenlist.com * http://www.bunnymen.info * http://www.bunnymen.com * http://www.fotolog.net/sgtfuzz/ * http://bunnymen.nexuswebs.net/ * http://www.angelfire.com/wy2/discog/ * ====================================================================== Tired of spam? Bands like that, The Jam and some Blur for example are just so full of Brit slang and references its hard to find an audience here On Tue, 30 Nov 2004 19:41:52 +0000, Matt wrote: > I doubt you Yanks would be too keen on them.... > > From Sham 69 b-side "No Entry": > > "They didn't want us in the U.S.A. > We didn't wanna go there anyway.... > > Stick America up yer arse..." > > Or something like that....it's probably been 25 years since I heard > it! > > Echo and the Bunnymen | the official website: http://www.bunnymen.com > ___________________________________________________________ > Get your own Web-based E-mail Service at http://www.zzn.com > > ===================================================================== > Bunnymen Online Presence: > http://www.bunnymenlist.com * http://www.bunnymen.info > * > http://www.bunnymen.com * http://www.fotolog.net/sgtfuzz/ > * > http://bunnymen.nexuswebs.net/ * http://www.angelfire.com/wy2/discog/ > * > > ====================================================================== > > - -- - -Brian Andersen bandersen65@gmail.com ===================================================================== Bunnymen Online Presence: http://www.bunnymenlist.com * http://www.bunnymen.info * http://www.bunnymen.com * http://www.fotolog.net/sgtfuzz/ * http://bunnymen.nexuswebs.net/ * http://www.angelfire.com/wy2/discog/ * ====================================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Nov 2004 20:22:41 +0000 From: "Matt" Subject: Re: seven-seas Re: Sham 69 >I'm open minded enought to realize and understand >why people don't like America. I was only really being tongue-in-cheek when I suggested that you Yanks might not like them! >I saw them in the 80's once. Pretty good show. I've always rather liked them meself.....I remember seeing them perform Tell The Children live, yes live, on TOTP (R.I.P.) way back.....that's not so unusual, you might say, but back then bands, particularly bands like Sham 69, did not play live on TOTP. It was all miming or video performances. That's Life was an excellent album....
