Ah, I dunno about that, but it seems as if we've got a new King George to be pissed off about. Nearly every Canadian I've met has said that no matter how long they have lived here in the US, they are keeping their Canadian citizenship just in case they were to fall chronically or gravely ill and need to go home for treatment. I've not heard as strong a sentiment from Brits. How it works is that each province is a single-payer insurer. The doctors do not work for the government as they do in the NHS (UK) system; they are in theory independent. But as with ALL insurance, what the insurer will pay for is limited, how timely they are differs, and there are fairly big differences between the amount of money each province has to spend on its citizens based on wealth (Ontario is first, with Nova Scotia and New Brunswick last, I believe; the Newfies struck oil recently). It is not much different from Medicare, and again, if Medicare is OK for those over 65 (who tend to vote conservative), why in their minds is it not okay for the rest of the country? So..... the question originally too was how does the election change our everyday lives? Hugely, because of the short-term effects of policies and the ballooning debt. God knows who's running in 2008. My British friend thinks Colin Powell will defect to the middle and stand on either a Democratic or independent ticket. Of course, that is a highly speculative (and probably wishful) opinion! ===================================================================== Bunnymen Online Presence: http://www.bunnymenlist.com * http://www.bunnymen.info * http://www.bunnymen.com * http://www.fotolog.net/sgtfuzz/ * http://bunnymen.nexuswebs.net/ * http://www.angelfire.com/wy2/discog/ * ====================================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Nov 2004 22:44:06 +0000 (GMT) From: Stu Bird Subject: Re: OT seven-seas November Spawned A Monster Hey Rob!! No worries my friend.. I know that you are far from republician. It was a very, very slight acceptance that I noted from your post, like you said, there are probably worse places to be. However, on a personal level, you can't really change those places before you change your own.. I dunno... Maybe I think too much. I did say that I meant no disrespect and I wasn't having a go at you..
