I heard last week some guy committed suicide > because of the election results. That is just sad and stupid at the same > time. I believe that the country will change and will continue to change. I don't think suicide is the answer, no, but emigration might be, as would standing one's ground and refusing to lie back and take it. I was grousing about this to a friend in London who goes round standing up to neo-Nazis and the conspicuously consumptive and what they want to do in given areas, and he said that desegregation did not begin with an election, it began with Rosa Parks refusing to sit in the back of the bus, and that fleeing this country would only deprive it of its most progressive thinkers. I'll get my chance when my daughter gets to high school. They've just further gutted our textbooks to include choice things like replacing "No one knows why some people are homosexual" to "People who choose to be homosexual are at much higher risk of suicide, drug addiction, and communicable diseases like AIDS." Now can you see why those of us deep in the red states are blue? ===================================================================== Bunnymen Online Presence: http://www.bunnymenlist.com * http://www.bunnymen.info * http://www.bunnymen.com * http://www.fotolog.net/sgtfuzz/ * http://bunnymen.nexuswebs.net/ * http://www.angelfire.com/wy2/discog/ * ====================================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Nov 2004 12:18:28 -0600 (CST) From: amyr@jump.net (Amy Moseley Rupp) Subject: seven-seas an actual music related post! What are you afraid of happening while you visit?????????? > I'm baffled. It's not being afraid of terrorism, it's spending money that ultimately winds up as tax dollars in the control of a government whose policies you do not support. It's a kind of economic boycott. If I could avoid paying taxes here without going to jail, I would do it too, and give the taxes to the poor. Now there's a novel idea -- if everything is supposed to be privatised, and individuals can make better decisions than the government (according to the Republicans) I want all my tax money back to decide whether it goes for war or hunger or education or whatever. Somehow the Republicans are okay with privatising our retirement (Social Security) but they still force us to pay taxes. Hmmm. I wonder why. ===================================================================== Bunnymen Online Presence: http://www.bunnymenlist.com * http://www.bunnymen.info * http://www.bunnymen.com * http://www.fotolog.net/sgtfuzz/ * http://bunnymen.nexuswebs.net/ * http://www.angelfire.com/wy2/discog/ * ====================================================================== - --- Incoming mail is certified Virus Free.
