If all of us who voted against Bush and for Kerry could leave, could get out of the consequences of having Bush as president, from the looming debt, the dismal economy, the war, and so forth, then I'd say leave 'em to fry and get the hell out. But we can't, and even worse, if we all DID leave, America would be even freer to be WORSE to the rest of the world. I can only plead to the world in terms of the Judeo- Christian Sodom and Gomorrah story. God was rather repulsed by those places, and if there had been even one righteous soul in the place, He would have not destroyed the place. When you have nearly half of the people in a nation clearly rejecting the agenda of the Bush administration, you can only hope that the rest of the world will take notice and not blindly retaliate against America as a whole or Americans in general. I do know that I will feel less comfortable travelling abroad now that the fool's been elected a second time. Impersonating a Canadian has never looked so good. ===================================================================== Bunnymen Online Presence: http://www.bunnymenlist.com * http://www.bunnymen.info * http://www.bunnymen.com * http://www.fotolog.net/sgtfuzz/ * http://bunnymen.nexuswebs.net/ * http://www.angelfire.com/wy2/discog/ * ====================================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Nov 2004 23:07:14 -0800 (PST) From: chris adams Subject: Re: seven-seas U2 on the Bunnymen Amy wrote: I wish that people would put as much energy into recommending bands as they do into slagging them. I wish that most bands put as much energy into their music as I do slagging them. As for Bono, he's written a few great tunes. But let's face it, the man's a deluded, half-pyschotic clown--a buffoon. All overblown gesture and bad hairpiece. The first 3 albums are awful, mostly due to Big B's overly-earnest, tuneless caterwaul. "War" in particular is just a self-important juvenile embarrassment, like an overproduced demo of half-written anthems with adolescent lyrics. Truly shit tunes Lillywhitewashed. Unforgettable Fire and Achtung had some truly inspired moments--Wire, Unforgettable Fire, and One are all great, esecially the latter--tellingly, written by The Edge. Then they were shit again. "Lemon?" Uh-huh. Aptly titled, if nothing else. MacPhisto? Ummm...we hated Genesis the first time around--hence "punk rock," remember? But you've got to ironically admire their career-long tradition of ass-kissing. "What, a Ray Charles Benefit? There's always been a Ray Charles element to our music..." "The Velvets are being elected into the Rock Hall of fame? We love Lou!" Etc. Like THEY'RE lending credence to Ray and Lou. Fukkin ridiculous, I mean totally, bombastically deluded. - --Chris A. PS: B-sides "Lady With the Spinning Head" and "Walk To the Water" are, inexplicably, fantastic. It's funny -- U2 have (ooh ! I remember have vs has! ;-) ) accomplished more than most bands ever dream of -- even if one were to argue that 90% of their music is shite, there's also better stuff than 99.9999% of all bands could ever put out. And yet it has become a bit of a joke to slag them, and uncool to say that you like them. I wish that people would put as much energy into recommending bands as they do into slagging them. This isn't aimed at any individual including Mac! but in general. Don't tell someone to turn their music off; tell them what they should be listening to instead ;-) ===================================================================== Bunnymen Online Presence: http://www.bunnymenlist.com * http://www.bunnymen.info * http://www.bunnymen.com * http://www.fotolog.net/sgtfuzz/ * http://bunnymen.nexuswebs.net/ * http://www.angelfire.com/wy2/discog/ * ====================================================================== Check out the new Yahoo!
