There are some dodgy moments, but there are also some fine ones. I've always sat very firmly in the Generation Terrorists/Gold Against The Soul/Holy Bible camp rather than the This Is My Truth/Know Your Enemy camp, so this was bound to be a little disappointing, given its more poppy approach but, as I said, it's growing on me considerably. I still think the lead single, The Love Of Richard Nixon, is crap, possibly even the worst song they've done but, on the album, it is sandwiched between opening track 1985 and Empty Souls, two very fine songs, the latter of which sounds distinctly like Keane until James Dean Bradfield opens his mouth. Song For Our Departure is also a beautiful song, and there are several more quality moments as the album progresses. I've been listening to it this morning driving to work, and a thought occurred to me. I think maybe I'm going mad, but this album sounds to me as though it could be what would have happened if they'd written a full album with Kylie Minogue instead of just the one single. That may sound damning, but I actually though Some Kind Of Bliss was an excellent song. Anyway....I still much prefer the earlier, Richey-included stuff, but this is a decent album, nonetheless. As for the Bunny influence, I can't ever remember them being mentioned but, according to opening track 1985, the major influence on the band growing up were The Smiths.... It is wrong that religion is being used as a political tool these days. Not to get religious or anything, and of course no politician is perfect but I think what I find interesting is that if you compare Bush's policies with Jesus teachings, I think you will find a lot of inconsistencies. I think that is what the Kerry camp should've tried to do. Rob > --- "Charbonneau, Peter J" wrote: > >> Hard to believe. Job losses.
