So someone has, apparently, already taken you there. What's the implication? Do you want to be at a different ballgame? Are we not worthy of being "the crowd"? Are our peanuts and cracker jack somehow not sufficient? It's also decidedly pessimistic: "...the home team/if they don't win it's a shame/cos it's one, two, three strikes--yer out!/at the old ball game." Strange little ditty. But it sure as shit beats Queen's "We Are The Champions" and "Don't Stop Beleivin'" by Journey, which I've been forced to endure for 2 days. Honestly, though, the Sox's victory makes it tolerable. Everyone's stunned, everyone's high. We've had greats on our ballclub, names spoken with reverence: Ted Williams, Carl Yaztresemski, Roger Clemens, Jim Rice--how 2004's self-admitted band of "idiots" got the brass ring, after being one stike away from being swept by the Yankees in the playoffs...it's inconceivable. Stats have been added up. As of 9 days ago we had less than a one percent chance of winning the series. Sports statisticians have been crunching the numbers and what was being called "the greatest comeback in baseball history" is now, apparently, "the greatest comeback in the history of sports." Period. Bostonians will never be surprised by anything again. I wrote something yesterday to the effect of "Jesus could descend on our State House lawn in an Elvis jumpsuit and offer free lessons in Japanese cooking to an Aleutian nose-flute soundtrack and no one would bat an eyelid." This truly is one for the grandkids. Tomorrow there's gonna be a parade, which will see an extra 5 million people hitting the streets of this city, effectively doubling the population of the state. All trynna cram within a 2.5 mile parade route, with no public toilets. Our mayor's obviously a genius. I'm gettin' outta dodge for that one. "Hi Mom, hi dad! Thought I'd pay my fave parents a visit! Oh, no special reason..." -Chris A. Rob Maher wrote: LOL. Chris, you are crackin me up today. I also have never heard such a perfect description of 10,000 maniacs. Oh, and I find that "Take me out to the Ballgame" is a great song when your team is up, and is lame crap when they are losing. Funny that.
