I still don't understand why Iraq was so important over other countries. I don't think Iraq was all that threatening to the "free world" as we were told. I think there are other countries out there that are either more of a threat (North Korea), or that there are much worse things happening to its people (Sudan). I don't see how this did anything to fight terrorism either. How can you fight terrorism when the terrorists themselves are fighting for what they believe and are willing to commit suicide for their God? I am glad that Saddam is not in power anymore, and there are a lot of relieved Iraqi's who are very glad that his sons are dead, however I can't help thinking that this had more to do with oil than anything else, and that we are only making the hatred of the west worse in all this. Lincoln used to tell the story of the little boy who had grabbed a wild boar by the tail. As he was being dragged and stomped he cried out to his friend, bCome help me let go of this boar!b An inelegant metaphor, but apt, I think. - Kristin ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Sep 2004 12:37:38 -0700 From: "MCH" Subject: Re: OT: seven-seas MORE BUSH LIES > You're right, it's a huge mess. No, we cannot just leave tomorrow, but the way True, Kerry would be able to back out and bring home the troops "without shame" in that as a new leader he'd be able to declare "new era and moving on" after a legitimate period of aggressive national defense, that eventually got into trouble which the whole world can see. Perhaps it would be better to pull all out of Iraq and deploy all that power into Afghanistan to really clobber the remaining terror forces there, which really ARE alquaida and a continuing real threat as they have already for years had the cash to buy WMDs in Russia. Though it is a mess, and costing dearly in blood treasure and world opinion, still... as bad as it is, somebody had to do something about Iraq. The world had tried every other possibility for 12 years and Saddam was still there, killing and persecuting his people, and his insane sons would have done even worse after him. It should have been done in 91 and for that reason, it really was for America to take on. Wrong timing, wrong justification, but some good will come from it, though far too late and with suffering for all. ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Sep 2004 15:10:20 -0500 (CDT) From: amyr@jump.net (Amy Moseley Rupp) Subject: Re: OT: seven-seas MORE BUSH LIES > on. Only time will tell, but the pricetag in all ways is far too high at a time when we need to prioritise things. If you are being attacked by terrorists, pissing the rest of the world off at your country is not the smartest thing to do. I am put in mind of Bill Hicks and I'll paraphrase it: Q. How strong is Iraq? A. They have a tremendous arsenal of top-notch weapons. Q. How do you know that? A. Errrrm.... we looked at the receipt? Same could be said of the Mujahadeen and Afghanistan and and.... ridiculous that American companies are allowed to sell WMDs to foreign countries just to make a buck. Even moreso that the US government would *give* them to rogue nations. When the French helped us out in our Revolution I think the deadliest thing was like, cannon powder or something. ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ End of seven-seas-digest V3 #315 ********************************
