In the cold light of a new morning, methinks my tone was a bit harsh. My apologies to Sheldon. I've just singed back onto this list, after months away for many reasons, one being that I thought that there was way too much interpersonal bitchery going on. I'M embarrassed by my own hypocricy. I know it's only rock and roll...but my suggestion would be let's avoid personal character assasinations. Again, apologies. - --Chris A. Yahoo! Having never met Ian McCulloch, I am not going to comment on his character, except to say that if I did not believe him a good and decent man I would not be on this list. Personally, I think WAYGTDWYL is probably his best piece of work, but it needs to be accepted on its own terms, not as a 'Bunnymen' album. - - Kristin > Embarrasing myself, like I caused Les to leave ???? > > But you're quite right, @ my age (43 come Sept) I don't idol worship anyone > anymore. How do you assess Slideling in relation to Candleland and WAYGTDWYL ? - - K ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Apr 2004 09:23:23 -0700 (PDT) From: chris adams Subject: Re: seven-seas New Kerala .Com Overall, I really like Slideling, I'd say probably as much as I liked Candleland. But, as is with most records, after a while, I find myself only playing a few tracks off it: Love In Veins, Kansas, High Wires, and She Sings...But I love WAYG...I think its a masterpiece. That said, once I've played a record out, it's not often I go back to it, cos there's always new stuff coming out, and as I get I older it seems there's less time to sit around listening to music. (That said, I still play Dylan and the Velvets almost every week, and I heard "Ocean Rain" (the song) just yesterday and it still sounds magnificent. - --Chris "K. F. I generally like the more delicate stuff on Slideling -- I think Sliding and Arthur are gorgeous and Playgrounds has that wonderfully wistful, emotive quality. Stake Your Claim is a grand thing, and I think Another Train is really neat (I have a weakness for train songs). But yeah, Ocean Rain is a song for all time. - - K :) ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Apr 2004 10:54:44 -0700 (PDT) From: chris adams Subject: Re: seven-seas New Kerala .Com "K. Haven't played it in ages, but it's gorgeous. Stake Your Claim is a grand thing, and I think Another Train is really neat (I have a weakness for train songs). But yeah, Ocean Rain is a song for all time. Yeah--push to shove, I'd say Ocean Rain is the best song the Buns ever did. When I finally shuffle off this mortal coil (any day now), I want that song played @ the funeral--that and "Spirit" by the Waterboys, which says more profound semi-mystical truth in 10 lines than most people do in their lives. Speaking of funerals, lemme go on record and say that, contrary to popular sentiment these day, I don't want "A happy party in rememberance of me." I want whole villages weeping, inconsolable. Black armbands. Sacrificed virgins. Self-flaggelation. Spontaneous bouts of stigmata. People leaping, delerious with grief, onto my coffin. Grown men weeping, screaming "why not take me?" to their apparently absent God in a vacant Heaven. More importantly: Liverpool 1, Man U nil. From the spot, no less. Who'd a thunk? - --Chris A. ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== Yahoo!
