Sorry for beign such a lurker and sorry for only > posting off-topic. I am certainly interested in any possible way of going to > Glasto this year tho :) Good job the Bunnymen played *last* year, yeah? I guess from Stu's explanation that since the ticketholder's name is printed on the card, there can only be four ways to go if you didn't get a ticket in the first place: * forgery -- alteration of the original ticket holder's details to match that of the person wanting to go * forgery -- false identification matching that of the original ticket holder's details * hoping the ticket takers won't check ID at the gate * and the only real solution, return of the tickets when people's mates inevitably flake out but what a hassle to wait around for the tickets to return! If they really want to cut out the touts, there are better ways to do it. I can't make an exact comparison, but SXSW has some anti-fraud/anti-scalping protection.... if you buy a wristband, which is the only *affordable* option, it is put on your wrist at the point of purchase and you can't take it off until after the show is over. There is a little radio-transmitter chip inside emitting a low-wattage signal that can be read at the venue entrances. If you have a *badge*, which is really too expensive for most folks ($525!) it has your name, a picture of you, your hometown, and your affiliation all printed on it, on paper that's hard to counterfeit, and it also contains the above radio chip. The details are printed on BOTH sides so that flipping it over doesn't hide the details. If the good folks at Glasto want to ensure that the people they want to get the tickets actually have them, they *could* program THE TICKETS and begin collecting an electronic attendance list at the gates. In future years, those who have attended before would be able to buy first, ensuring that all those folks would get tickets (unless they shrank capacity). To expand beyond that, they *could* require that an previous attendee be the one to purchase a ticket for a first-timer, which would lessen the chances of scalping -- each "season" ticket holder being able to sponsor one or two new folks.
