Dunno how many of you are on the mailing list... but I just got this from Peter! :-) Hi recieved this from Cooking Vinyl Records GLIDE Curvature Of The Earth Released June 04 Gig on 1st May at Futuresonic04, Manchester June 2004 sees the release of Curvature Of The Earth, the new album by Glide. Glide is the brainchild of Will Sergeant (of Echo & The Bunnymen), a man regarded by many to be one of the most influential guitarists of the last three decades. Since Weird As Fish in 1978, Sergeant has released a flood of limited edition solo EPs and albums, but this is the first one to feature proper chord changes. Ive been recording solo material since before the Bunnymen began, Sergeant explains. Ive never been that interested in playing the guitar, but that was what you had to do to be in a band in the seventies. What really interested me was making the guitar sound like something from outer space, and creating sounds that nobody else could. Curvature Of The Earth was recorded at Sergeants own studio, The Pod in Lancashire, over a 4 week period with engineers Dave Buchanan and Mike Hunter. Sergeant, who plays all the instruments on the album, picked the final eleven tracks from over seventy compositions he had stored on his computer, and spent a day completing each one. I guess I like the control of doing stuff on my own, he says. Its like painting a picture. I can build each tune up how I want and create a more diverse palette than I can when I am with the Bunnymen - I couldnt get a 40 minute ambient track past Mac, for example. From the hypnotic soundscape of A Golden Dawn, and the cinematic expanse of In Blue Sunshine, to the futuristic, psycotropic space rock of Iggy and Ziggy, and the dark, slinkiness of Rotation 1, Curvature Of The Earth utilizes, and skillfully weaves together, a miscellany of musical styles. The album was produced by Sergeant, and sees his wife, Paula Sergeant, adding guest vocals to I Have Seen The Sunlight. Full track listing as follows : 1. A Golden Dawn 7. Expo 68 2. Spirit 8. Chopped Hog 3. In Blue Sunshine 9. Rotation 1 4. I Have Seen The Sunlight 10. Curvature of the Earth 5. Kraken 11. Ainsdale Beach April 6. Iggy and Ziggy Glide will be doing a one-off live performance at Futuresonic04, The Baronial Hall, Chetham's, Manchester on Saturday 1st May. Billed as Location - Live the event will take place in the unique surroundings of a 15th Century Hall, the event is curated by Professor Colin Fallows and also features live performances by Mathew Gregory, Vergil Sharkya', Phil Mouldycliff and Colin Potter (UK).
