I haven't had a chance to absorb it all yet, but have steered my way through some highlights. Will's guitar sounds better than ever on "Show of Strength"...coming through like a rich melodic fog horn. The alternate version of "My White Devil" has become an immediate fave from the "Porcupine" disc. The strings are deep and rich on "Ocean Rain" and Mac's voice soars. The bells in "Yo Yo Man" sound like they are ringing straight out of a baroque masterpiece. I haven't had a chance to turn my attention to "Crocodiles" yet, but thus far I'm impressed. I have to admit I was a wee bit uncertain at first...I mean how many times in my life will I shell out for these discs, but it was worth the price and my old copies now reside with my eight year old's collection. The acid test for me was just how close CD could come to recapturing the warmth and depth of vinyl and I think this is about as close as anyone could hope to get. I am gonna be cranking these like I'm 18 again. I think > it sounds like WAYGTDWYL part 2. > I agree with the WAYGTDWYL comparison. I think WAYGTDWYL is sort of a de facto solo album. But to me, solo work vs. Bunnymen work is apples & oranges, or (I like to make these analogies), watercolor & oils, the aurora borealis & a fireworks display.... I've loved Bunnymen albums for 20 years, and I can't say I think the solo work is 'better' -- but it 'speaks' to my particular sensibilities, or whatever. - - K :) ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Dec 2003 01:24:09 -0000 From: "Echoing The Bunnymen" Subject: Re: seven-seas-digest V2 #946 Buxton "NO" Albert Hall "NO" Scottish Islands "NO" etc etc etc Move on don't dilly dally in the past, that's been the problem.
