It's really like a birthday, isn't it? If it were seen as a marriage of the four original members, that's certainly been shattered through death and separation. So given that it's a birthday, part of the band took some time of for teenaged experimentation ;-) but that didn't stop the band from aging! - ------------------------------------------------- This mail sent through IMP: http://horde.org/imp/ ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Sep 2003 15:23:13 +0100 From: "Noose Boy" Subject: seven-seas FW: [ianmcnabb] Long and rambling Nerja post Sounds like a good gig missed, check out the encores, you might recognise the odd one. Hopefully he's still on form this Fri when I'll be seeing him at the Ocean, Hackney. Anyone else from here going Raj - -----Original Message----- To: ianmcnabb@yahoogroups.com Subject: [ianmcnabb] Long and rambling Nerja post Been back a couple of days from Nerja now and I've had a chance to reflect after Saturday's gig. It was a special night and a privilege to be there. I wish I'd had a bit (maybe even a lot) less to drink so it was clearer in my mind. This is what I can remember or wrote down! Ian finally finished playing around 6am on Sunday morning and my friend John and I virtually staggered straight off to the airport to fly home. It was a great way to end the holiday but I am bloody worn out now. Not sure how many people were there, sadly not the full house the club had suggested, but still a decent atmosphere. At least all Ian's travel arrangements had gone sweetly and he turned up exactly as planned ! In good spirits too. It was good to see/meet the McNabb fans out there; Dave Hampshaw, Chris Baxter, Fleecy and Wozy and partners, and of course special guest support act Mr James Lee. Have forgotten the names of one or two others, sorry. James looked pretty nervous before going on stage but his five songs were good and went down well (I think I liked `Peace' best), before introducing Ian onto the stage as `the best songwriter in England'. Ian went on at about midnight and played for something like two and a half /three hours I think, with a mixture of McNabb favourites, new songs and covers, ending with a rousing Hey Jude. There was no encore, but after chatting a while Ian's guitar re-appeared and he sat down with the audience and became a human jukebox, belting out more covers. Lots of them. It became a bit of a drunken singalong, with plenty of anecdotes thrown in for good measure. Ian finished with Western Eyes (I think) and suddenly it was 6am and time for home, just a few of us left and looking and feeling worse for wear. Having been a fan for many years without having spoken to Ian or knowing what to say, this was a very special show, a surreal experience and a hell of an event, even though Ian shamefully spurned my calls for Motorcycle Rider! Wouldn't have missed it for the world, it was an unforgettable night, if only I could remember as much as I would like. Nerja was very nice too and I would recommend it to anyone if there's another gig next year. Cheers Ian, glad you made it! Top night. For any set-listers out there, this is the best I could do. Apologies for the ones I forgot (especially near the end), didn't recognise (one or two new songs) and even the ones I might have made up thanks to the booze. Cheers Dave and Chris for filling in a few gaps. What She Did to My Mind Camaraderie Finally Getting Over You Hollow Horse Before All of This Liverpool Girl I'm a Loser (?) Law Against (?)
