And that's a compliment. I first saw them when Morrissey hand-picked them to open for him when he came through Boston 3 years ago and I just thought they offered a nice alternative to the crap being played on the radio. They did score a minor hit with the song "Hum" off the first album, and it was even used in a car commercial (I forget which company). They are known for playing covers from bands that have influenced them and I know they've covered the Bunnymen a few times. - -----Original Message----- From: Henry Biedenkapp [mailto:henry17306@hotmail.com] Sent: Thursday, August 28, 2003 12:18 PM To: seven-seas@smoe.org Subject: RE: seven-seas OT The Sheila Divine Matt and Peter, Matt, glad you liked TSD. I love the Secret Society EP -- reminds me of all the great 80's type music, by mostly Smiths-y sounding without being an imitator like the first Gene album. Peter, I found the rest of TSD material to be good, but rather typical whereas I found Secret Society to be very special and extraordinary -- especially for an American band! Matt, now i hope TSD can wipe that ugly Pete Yorn taste out of your mouth. I don't get to listen to new music that much because most of it is soulless and has no personality. I respect a lot of peoples opinions here and appreciate it when a strong album comes out that it gets recommended. Thank goodness for downloads and samples in order for us to make our own determination, but owning the CD itself is the art and pleasure of it.
