So, if a Turkish spy comes over > here, you wouldn't want him arrested???????????? (big breath) This was during the Russian occupation of Afghanistan. We actually gave money and other aid to many of the same people who would later become the Taliban and hate us. We wanted them to kick the Russians out, and eventually they did. Next door to Afghanistan is Turkey. There are US forces bases in Turkey. On those bases were linguistics experts who would eavesdrop on the Russians' conversations -- and of course, you had to know Russian in order to do this. They could pick up the Russians' radio transmissions, even though they were in Turkey. One day the Russians decided to come *without permission*, obviously, into Turkey, and take over one of the US bases. They obviously wanted to stop the eavesdropping, but they had no right to either enter Turkey, with whom they were NOT at war, or take over a US base. They held the military staff there hostage for a few WEEKS until they decided to kindly let them go. They then retreated back to Afghanistan, where they remained until the Taliban kicked them out. I Incidentally, all this practise in fighting a huge military machine (Russia, or more precisely, the USSR) with Kewl weapons from another huge military machine (the US) has come in very handy for Al Qaeda, some of whose members were among the "freedom fighters" who got the Russians out of Afghanistan. - ------------------------------------------------- This mail sent through IMP: http://horde.org/imp/ ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 Aug 2003 11:07:24 -0700 From: "Ivan Smith" Subject: Re: seven-seas OT: psycho... did get this cryptic one soon: - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter Burnand" To: Sent: Monday, August 25, 2003 10:29 PM Subject: seven-seas OT: psycho... > Ivan wrote: "Turgut, I can't make any promises. > I've already told you, it is not management policy > to give out details of the band's travel plans - this > includes flight schedules, hotel accomodations, > meals, soundcheck times, etc." > > --- > I've just hacked into the caterer's mainframe and > it's defo chicken a la king for the second night. > > PS: I was hoping that the legendary 'fuck you in > the ass' would appear somewhere in the Turgut > Monologues. > > _________________________________________________________________ > Protect your PC - get McAfee.com VirusScan Online > http://clinic.mcafee.com/clinic/ibuy/campaign.asp?cid=3963 > > > > ====================================== > http://www.bunnymenlist.com > > ====================================== > - --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
