I'm convinced that we deserve nothing but three minute songs because the attention span of the average American is so short. Most people *WANT* in-your-face good-times stuff. The Darkness is not far off from Van Halen -- the guitarist obviously would need a lot more prowess, but otherwise I see a lot of similarities. I can't name a single act that's big here right now.... I'd honestly have to go pull the charts to see what's selling. All the hottest stuff is either coming from England or from bands that are more than 10-15 years old. Radiohead are *THE* band to see this fall, across the US. That oughtta speak volumes. Also look at the KROQ lineup. Remember Cyndi Lauper and Meatloaf? The Darkness could make it big, and if we could get our IQs up a little more, I'm convinced that certain songs by UK artists could hit the charts. - --Amy - ------------------------------------------------- This mail sent through IMP: http://horde.org/imp/ ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Aug 2003 20:13:55 +0100 From: "Shaz" Subject: Re: seven-seas OT: Kerrang! awards/KJ/The Darkness - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Amy Moseley Rupp" > > They were quite the hit at SXSW, stole the show away from > British Sea Power, I'll say that much. What, exactly, is nu-metal? I see that phrase a lot, but have no clue as to which band(s) typify that genre. - ------------------------------------------------- This mail sent through IMP: http://horde.org/imp/ ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Aug 2003 14:41:25 -0500 From: Amy Moseley Rupp Subject: Re: seven-seas OT: Kerrang! awards/KJ/The Darkness > he he - the video is cool and had my kids rolling around > laughing the other day..... Gosh darn it.... will have to see if it's out there for download.... see there are some things that you just cannot get any other way. My four-year-old would probably love it! Biggest sibling argument in the car: whether or not to listen to music. Four-year-old says yes and sucks thumb contemplatively whilst listening to Radiohead. Eleven-year-old wants silence and says Radiohead are stupid because all plastic is fake, isn't it? or is it the trees that are fake, in which case "plastic tree" would imply fake, anyway..... (obviously they both take after me in different ways) - ------------------------------------------------- This mail sent through IMP: http://horde.org/imp/ ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ End of seven-seas-digest V2 #704 ********************************
