First time I heard Hawley, I thought "this guy needs to get in touch with David Lynch" (who is a huge Orbison fan--check "Blue Velvet for "The Candy-Colored Clown"). The Chris Isaak reference is also spot-on, I think. For those who haven't heard him--really, I can't stress what a great writer this guy is. Anybody who can write lines like "Say goodnight to the Man on the moon" and "My motorcycle's full of holes" is OK by me. - --Chris A. (I know that sounds ludicrous, but I'm being completely honest.) Is is flawless godlike perfection. Other spine-tinglers (for me) are: Oh Happy Day--Spiritualized This is the Sea--The Waterboys It's All Too Much--The Beatles Street Fighting Man--The Stones Llolando (Crying)--Rebekah something or other on the Mulholland Drive Soundtrack Ocean Rain/A Promise--EATB Going Underground--The Jam Idiot Wind--Dylan Daily Nightly--The Monkees Allen Ginsberg reading "Howl" Pearly Dewdrops Drops/Donimo--The Cocteau Twins Speaking of the Cocteaus, I've just written a feature on them (with Robin Guthrie interview) for Filter Magazine. If you're a fan of 'em and would like to read it, please email me privately and I'll send you an attachment of the unadulterated, unedited, filthy version. - --Chris A. There's a plague in the wind That's sweeping us in With a sadness that comes to us all At the edge of a cliff Is a bottomless pit Where all of us have to fall All the kings and queens And knights in shining armor All the holy ghosts And all our holy fathers Take what's yours and take it boldly And boldly go where you tread so coldly The drop is sheer and never holy Just you and you alone Ride the wave when it comes crashing Be the knight in a shining costume Slay the dragons if they're asking For what you've always known All the kings and queens And knights in shining armor All the holy ghosts And all our holy fathers Gotta get me in... There's a broken-down castle With blood on the battlements You know how it's gonna end With a forgotten angel Who'll never be able To soar with the gods again There's a plague in the wind That's sweeping us in With a sadness that comes to us all At the edge of a cliff Is a bottomless pit Where all of us have to fall And someone above Is handing down love Putting a twist in the tale And left it too late For someone who hates To get to the holy grail Come inside... - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chris Adams" To: Sent: Friday, August 22, 2003 8:33 AM Subject: Re: seven-seas Lyrics to Holy Grail? > It's in TQD, Amy. > Pretty much every song Mac's recorded is in TQD, with the exception of > unreleased stuff like "Catch as Catch Can" "Goldmine" "Watch Out Below" & > "No Hands."
