Hardly. Does Crystal Method count? 808 State? As I keep saying, we are suffering through a new "dark age" of pop music. It's always that way when things reach a peak like in the early 80s: what follows is inevitably not in the same league... but this has been going on for too long now. Like I said we need a revolution, like new instruments (crash sabers!)... a fresh style with new energy. I do listen to the techno/party-dance stations on the radio because every once in a while amidst the pounding beat and druggy lyrics I hear a glimpse of something that seems cool and verging on inspiration... maybe the new "new wave" will evolve out of this genre? ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Aug 2003 16:30:36 -0400 From: Wiegman Subject: seven-seas-digest V2 #688 Shaz, my fave track on Hawley is the same as yours - The Only Road. My second fave on the cd is Run For Me. My fave track on the Beck cd is between Lost Cause and Guess I'm Doing Fine. I couldn't pick just one fave track on McRae's cd. I love One More Mile, but I also love End Of The World News, Bloodless, Boy With The Bubblegun, and Language Of Fools. The entire cd is a gem. Do you have his cd "Just Like Blood"? My fave track on that cd is You Only Disappear. Ghost Of A Shark and Human Remains are great songs also. You Only Disappear is so good that it's worth the price of the cd alone. I guess you can tell how much I really appreciate your recommendation. I've been recommending them to everyone I know. (from When It's All Over...) It reminds me somewhat of My Bloody Valentine. With a hint of Smiths. ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Aug 2003 16:41:41 -0400 From: "Chris Adams" Subject: Re: seven-seas-digest V2 #688 Hawley CD: my fave track is "You Don't Miss Your Water Until Your River Runs Dry." It's a traditional tune--don't know who wrote it--but the arrangement, and the way Hawley sings it will have ya weeping in yr whiskey. Especially if your girlfriend's just left you for being an "egomaniacal beatnik weirdo." The bitch. - --Chris A. I'm playing this track right now! (thanks Shaz) Damn , this reminds me of someone too. This always happens to me! hahaha But yeah, it's good! Nice mellow stuff. He's always been a good guitarist...but I've never got round to hearing anything from his solo collection. Nice guy too.
