Actually, it's very different. This one has brought corporations to their knees, entire systems down indefinitely. It won't necessarily destroy hard drives, but it's sure a big pain in the ass. but why would I wanna go to some site and get some patch...when that site is the one that's supposed to be attacked? maybe that's where everyone is getting the damage from...cruel joke! hahaha The virus seeks out computers with no or low-resistant firewalls, independently. No one's going anywhere to get it. The patch will protect your computer from the damn thing. The hackers go after the largest number of machines they can possibly get -- the most bang for the buck. Since most users have been forced to upgrade to at least 2000, either because they bought a new computer, or they run a program that requires the upgrade, they are vulnerable. Anyone who has bought a computer within the last year or so will definitely be affected, as will anyone who's upgraded their operating systems. I also have a Mac, and I don't get viruses because they are harder to write, and because there are relatively few out there, so the hackers don't get much joy out of crashing them or using them to spread a worm. Make sure you make a copy of your Windows 98 installation disk. You can't buy it any more. - ------------------------------------------------- This mail sent through IMP: http://horde.org/imp/ ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Aug 2003 22:01:42 +0100 (BST) From: =?iso-8859-1?q?Stu=20Bird?= Subject: Re: Re: seven-seas VIRUS alert -- Windows -- everyone affected; see cnn.com ME is fine according to Microsoft and also the few anti-virus sites that I've just visited... The code within the worm contains the following text "I just want to say LOVE YOU SAN!! billy gates why do you make this possible ? Stop making money and fix your software!! " but it's a pretty nasty worm appaarantly. I know a few on here use grisoft.. there is an update to counter this virus available just by updating your database in the usual way..
