Very strange band for me The Coral.. I wouldn't hesitate to see them live ( to the extent that I bought a ticket outside the venue from a tout when they last played Bristol.. sold out ), but I just don't like the recorded sound. Whereas you can hear influences in certain bands, my impression of The Coral is that they take a song and do it in a stylee of a retro band, then on to the next song with a different retro band stylee etc etc. Like I said.. love 'em live though... (Stu had earlier written: "...Every Coral song I've heard sounds like it's been borrowed in parts from their parent's record collection.") Far be it for people to like groups that are influenced by others gone before er... like Television, The Ramones, The Velvets, Bowie, etc. Personally I think The Coral are dead talented, especially for ones still so shockingly young. I can understand their over-promotion pissing people off, though. But that's Sony's doing, definitely not the band's. _________________________________________________________________ Protect your PC - get McAfee.com VirusScan Online http://clinic.mcafee.com/clinic/ibuy/campaign.asp?cid=3963 ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== - --------------------------------- Want to chat instantly with your online friends? It all just sounds like 'apathy rock' to me. It all seems so 'kings new clothes' to me. KPJ > If memory serves.. I swore that the song sounded so familiar to something else that I heard from the 70's, but I never made the connection. Did this song strike anyone else as being familiar in someway? Re. the studio sound, perhaps it's Ian Broudie. I like his production (Jollification's a brilliant pop lp I think) but I'm defo no expert. A lot of people say his mixes are a bit thin (whatever that means!). Maybe you're right about the retro band thing. But to me they also have their own particular style as well. As Ian McCulloch recently said to James Skelly: "Your band is the second best in the world!" - --- Favourite munchie food, ok I've got to do this one... John West salmon in mustard and dill sauce eaten straight from the can of course, salad cream butties polished off with a double pack of Jaffa cakes. Then maybe a couple of pints of cold milk to wash it all down. _________________________________________________________________ Tired of spam?
