Cost about a tenner, plus I've also been able to record stuff like real audio streamed direct from the net which I've then passed back into the pc for editing and burning.. The whole 2 way system cost me about 20 quid tops, and seems to do the same as said gadget and then more as I have the ability to record audio from any source on the hi-fi ( vinyl, tape, radio, tv, video, dvd) to hard disc.... It further says: 'Piracy' push "A one-off chart for the favourite tracks on the second Digital Download Day will be released later this month. The second Digital Download Day gives UK fans access to #3 of free music, allowing them to download 30 tracks, stream 300 tracks or "burn" - or copy - 3 tracks to blank CDs. It is also Digital Download Day for German fans, who get 5 euros (#3.50) of free songs and similar campaigns have recently been held in the rest of Europe. The first day, in the UK in October 2002, was deemed to be a success in persuading users to abandon "pirate" services that are thought to be damaging the music industry. An estimated 4,500,000 people are thought to be downloading up to a billion pirated tracks over the internet at any one time." Have any of you in Europe participated in these DDDs? I do not believe we've had any similar thing here in the US. No matter what your feelings regarding trading mp3s, the free lunch *will* go away someday. Daniel Bedingfield was quoted as saying that until every recording is available for legitimate download, piracy would continue. He's right, because the one argument for allowing it is precisely that -- that much of the music we like is no longer available for sale. It's too costly to re-press vinyl or reissue CDs etc. But if someone could digitise every song released or requested, and somehow ensure that the artists and label were compensated (which would be a huge feat given the number of times most artists change labels and have huge legal rows) -- electronic distribution via the Internet would be a near free cost for them and any revenue pure profit. I suppose the iffy area is bootlegs, which are always illegal if the artist is under contract. Even if the artist doesn't object to a recording, the label will. ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ End of seven-seas-digest V2 #619 ********************************
