As long as it included "Container Drivers" I'd be happy! You're right about REM, Ted.....their setlist changes on a nightly basis, including several songs from every album over the years. I've also read an interview recently with Jaz Coleman, Killing Joke's frontman, who says that their forthcoming tour will include numerous songs from all their early albums as well as promoting their soon-to- be-released new album (which is awesome, if, like me, you like 'em hard 'n heavy!) But see...the advantage REM has is that they still have all their original band members....so they don't have to retrain new members to learn old stuff. But I'm sure the Bunnymen have had the same new members long enough now that they can teach them some more obscure things.... Hopefully for the next tour. Bill Berry, the drummer, quit a few years back, but you're right, other than that, it's the same line up. Why do you think I like Rush so much? The last personnel change was in *1974* when a new drummer joined the band :-P Love 'em or hate 'em, if a band has a creative synergy then it's best if they remain together. REM declared from day one that they would disband if one member left the group. Over ten years later, when Bill Berry wanted to retire (he's a farmer now) he asked to leave, but said he would not leave if it meant that the band wouldn't carry on without him. That's the story anyway. I intend on seeing REM here in Texas hopefully at least twice (there are three opportunities) and I admit it'll be weird without Bill drumming. But I love Stipe, Buck and Mills so much that it's worth it. And I'm chuffed that Radiohead are playing Houston. Even if they are past their peak as some may say, I'd still rather have the choice to go see them than not. ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Jul 2003 19:27:08 +0100 From: "Matt H" Subject: Re: seven-seas re:- fall set list >But see...the advantage REM has is that they still >have all their original band members....so they don't have >to retrain new members to learn old stuff. um....I think you'll find that their drummer quit a few years ago..... Or would he prefer more media exposure? air play? that could be bought as well. BTW for those who aren't big REM fans, Michael Stipe is referred to as Stipey or JMS.... (his first name is John). The MES thing reminded me of that. ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Jul 2003 13:33:50 -0500 From: "Amy Rupp" Subject: RE: seven-seas re: fall set list > em from the old days......nice to see mere pseudo mag ed on > there tho!! That song title reminds me of horses -- change mere to mare and mag to nag.... So I had to read the lyrics to see what was up, and while I sorta get it, I read a few other songs, and to me it's the lyrical equivalent of abstract art. Without the pretty and familiar palette that Ian uses. I'll definitely have to give them much more listening to "get it." But they seem worth the time. - --Amy (lunch: Coke. Doritos.
