While they may be good and even great...and even fucking great... there's an atmosphere that just hangs about when Killing Moon plays......... Those types of songs are the ones that stick in your mind far longer than most. Really? End of story? I wish it were that easy. No, I merely explained *why* I left halfway through. It was you who commented on my children's staying up late -- though they were in *bed*, they weren't asleep. Since you are the only one who comments on these details, I'll answer future questions off-list. And I would hope that if you were going through a very trying time in your life, you would be able to reference it and not get the salt rubbed into your wounds. You don't need to contradict everything I say in order for me and everyone else to get that you and I are very dissimilar. Certainly you are free to express your opinion, but it's not constructive to disagree for disagreement's sake. You're an insightful, kind person, and I think that our friction is the result of miscommunication and difference in values. - --Amy ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Jul 2003 11:07:31 -0500 (CDT) From: Amy Moseley Rupp Subject: Re: seven-seas Radio Free Europe > >I still don't get why people adore The Killing Moon over all else > >Echo has done but it certainly is universal. > > because it's a damn stunning song.....a powerful song! > > but Killing Moon is a song that more > people would know, because it was a hit and a single, > a lot of the others that are just as good weren't 'out there' > for the general public (non fans, just listeners) to hear and recognize, > so naturally it wouldn't get as much recognition. That's what I meant by the song being universal. So we agree. Very often passionate fans will choose a completely different favourite song than the general public, who has only heard a few songs that made it into airplay with all of the randomness and corporate pressure that decides what gets played. We have the benefit of having heard the entire catalog. I notice you didn't comment on my choices for the other bands listed; what do you think of them? ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Jul 2003 13:14:21 -0400 From: Red Subject: Re: seven-seas Radio Free Europe At 11:07 AM 7/19/03 -0500, you wrote: > >I notice you didn't comment on my choices for the other bands listed; >what do you think of them? I didn't comment because I got as far as reading that you didn't get why people adored Killing Moon so much more than the other singles and then I stopped reading ~ because that was the bit that made me feel inclined to write. I actually didn't read the whole mail because it was too long. But I wouldn't really have commented anyway because I don't really listen to any of those bands. I don't like the La's that much, although I do have one cd, but it's just okay. The music is far better than the vocals.... but 'Looking Glass' is nice. I like some OMD, but prefer Terry Hall (who isn't from L'pool, I know) or anything Paul Simpson does to the Lightning Seeds. That doesn't mean I dislike them or anything..... And I don't like Elvis Costello at ALL, never even knew he was from Liverpool actually....and don't care for the Coral snippets I've heard.... So.............I didn't feel it was personally neccessary for me to comment on anything else in that thread except the Bunnymen bit. Which is...of course, why we're all here.
