Didn't go to it cos I'd just broken up with a boyfriend who beat the crap out of me and the guy who I wanted to go with didn't want to go. My next door neighbour, whom I'd known since I was four, and had turned into the Sex God of the school, offered to take me, but I didn't have the heart. Everyone thought I was crazy for not going with him, but in my mind he was my ickle next door neighbour! So, when's the prom make-up date? :-) ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Jul 2003 11:17:25 -0500 From: "Amy Rupp" Subject: seven-seas OT: What Are We Doing To Do With Our Lives? > In the mean time I could start a new business, perhaps > something that's > in my blood, a chain of record shops (but they'd all have to be on a > corner). Now that's an interesting idea, but why all on a corner? You'd have to hire Matt for the West Country; that's also his dream job, and he's so enthusiastic and persuasive about music that he could sell whale calls to Eskimos! ;-) Of course, there *is* that little thing about MP3 downloading that's depressing the retail industry, but they'll get that sorted ;-) Meanwhile, I have become convinced that the only way to make it here is to either downsize your life and become a low-paid but fairly secure part of the infrstructure that can't be outsourced: a teacher, a police officer, a repairman. Preferrably some occupation protected by a professional society and miles of red tape and laws. Or one can strike out on one's own and hope to create something that appeals. J. K. Rowling's now richer than the Queen. People in hard times turn to entertainment and to drink. My brother's starting a winery. Me? No clue yet. ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Jul 2003 11:38:04 -0500 From: "Amy Rupp" Subject: RE: seven-seas OT Percentages > So, one can then conclude with mathematical certainty that: > While hard work and knowledge will get you close, > And attitude will get you there, > bullshit and ass kissing will put you over the top. You can also just ride someone's C-O-A-T-T-A-I-L-S (3 + 15 + 20 + 20 + 1 + 9 + 12 + 19 = 99% to the door, but why bother? It's really the T-R-U-S-T- F-U-N-D kids that are laughing all the way to the bank (20 + 18 + 21 + 19 + 20 + 6 + 21 + 14 + 4 = 144%). Lesson: unless you're born to rich parents, try to get someone rich to adopt you! ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Jul 2003 17:37:53 +0100 From: matt.harkness@bt.com Subject: RE: seven-seas Glastonbury > In the mean time I could start a new business, perhaps > something that's > in my blood, a chain of record shops (but they'd all have to be on a > corner). Hey Raj, I thought you were of African origin! Isn't it the Asians who have all the corner shops??!! ;-) And before anyone starts mouthing off about racism, it's a fucking joke, okay? ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Jul 2003 17:42:09 +0100 From: matt.harkness@bt.com Subject: RE: seven-seas OT: What Are We Doing To Do With Our Lives? > You'd have to hire Matt for the West Country; that's also > his dream job, and he's so enthusiastic and persuasive > about music that he could sell whale calls to Eskimos! ;-) Hmmmm....I think Stu may well be ahead of me in the job queue! Though yeah, you're right, I'm still as enthusiastic now about music as I was as a teenager....probably more so..... ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Jul 2003 12:03:19 -0500 From: "Amy Rupp" Subject: RE: seven-seas OT: What Are We Doing To Do With Our Lives? > > You'd have to hire Matt for the West Country; that's also > > his dream job, and he's so enthusiastic and persuasive > > about music that he could sell whale calls to Eskimos! ;-) > > Hmmmm....I think Stu may well be ahead of me in the job queue! > > Though yeah, you're right, I'm still as enthusiastic now about > music as I was as a teenager....probably more so..... We can't have too much competition, so one of you come here, and we'll open a store right next to the University. Bring some lads to work for you, and promise them free beer and women -- the sorority girls, beautiful and blonde, can't resist that English accent. (We all agreed on that, male and female alike, last night at The Fall concert.) Or if as John Lydon said, your economy depends on tourism, teach a summer course in British music appreciation. Loads of girls with money would come to study overseas, and you'd get loads of dosh. You've already got "24 Hour Party People" (the movie) as an advert ;-) ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Jul 2003 12:09:04 -0500 From: "Amy Rupp" Subject: RE: seven-seas OT: What Are We Doing To Do With Our Lives? > Though yeah, you're right, I'm still as enthusiastic now about > music as I was as a teenager....probably more so..... You already sell records and tickets to gigs here, cos when I go to buy records and tickets (which are sold mostly at record stores) I'm always telling the guys which bands are up-and-coming, and dragging them up and down the aisles pointing out this and that ;-) The one cool music store in town will let you listen to the entire CD before you buy it, and I've gotten people to listen to loads of stuff ;-) Oh yeah -- before the gig last night we ate shepherd's pie and I had lovely Somerset cider -- the pub replaced the Vermont crap which was insipid and characterless ;-) ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ End of seven-seas-digest V2 #553 ********************************
