But hitting the notes...in fact, the idea of >"music" in general is certainly not necessarily a >priority in rock n' roll, past a point. I heard Alice Cooper interviewed on the radio the other day, and he was saying that, having seen McCartney live, he's decided to follow his lead and start doing shows in which he does stuff to sound exactly like the records instead of all the fancy shit like extra guitar or drum solos etc that he'd always done before. Fuck that. I don't wanna go to a gig where the band sound as though they're miming to a CD. I can save my money, stay at home, and stick the album on if I wanna hear that. I wanna hear all the bum notes, the extra bits, Walk On The Wild Side, Sex Machine etc. Sure I wouldn't get the same atmosphere sat at home listening to a CD, but technically perfect musicianship does not equal atmosphere in my book. The *best stuff* can come from anyone, whether or not they are technically correct. If good music can be produced by anyone who puts their heart into it, then I could take any broken down boozer and put him into a recording studio and walk away with a hit record. Or a Grammy. Or both. You also have to know how to write a good song and how to play or sing. If you're self-taught/ classically trained/born with a guitar in your hands, whatever. ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Jul 2003 20:33:45 +0100 From: "Matt H" Subject: Re: Re: Re: Re: seven-seas(Brotherhood): New Zealand Make out >Your dog or cat? That, High Wires, and She Sings are prob my faves on >Slideling, Gus. - --- speaking of "High Wires", I got a Sirius satalite radio system for my car since radio ain't worth a toss around here these days & that track is on the playlist & I've been hearing it daily on their alternative station, alt.nation - pretty good station overall, no commercials. It was said that he was in the sirius studios for a session at some point while on tour, but somehow I managed to miss it. I have yet to hear either of the singles on there, they must've chosen 'high wires' as the track they wanted to play. _________________________________________________________________ Help STOP SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ End of seven-seas-digest V2 #529 ********************************
