John Peel doesn't like them. Haven't come across many people calling them boring though. They're managed by ex-Shack man Alan Wills, by the way. I haven't heard Shack either....but I just listened to the samples of all the tracks on the site after hearing the whole mp3 of Simon Diamond that Zak emailed me...that one was maybe sorta ok... but I wouldn't buy it. I really didn't like any of the samples at all! To be honest, I actually did find them boring. One of the slow songs sounded like Sting trying to be Thom Yorke! hehehehee sorry! (Goodbye really sounds like Sting) I didn't like the fast tracks at all, (Spanish Main) (Bad Man) those vocals remind me of some old geezer from the 70's whose been there and back. I don't think I could sit thru a whole cd! I guess they aren't my cuppa tea! Sorry! I think they are always gonna be one of those bands who are best ( for me ) live, but it does annoy me that they get so much hype. After a few listens it clicked and now I think they are fantastic live (really tight).......yep, love them live but never put their cd on (because I get bored too)..... I think they grow on you if you give them a chance..... But see.....I can't get into the guy's voice...... and I don't like the style of music... so I can't see myself ever spending any money to go see them live ...not to mention driving 4 hours...nah! I don't have the convenience of just being able to pop into a gig....so it has to really be worth my while. Now...flying 3000 miles to see the Bunnymen with all of you... that's worth my while! :-) :-) :-) Red ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Jul 2003 11:04:39 -0500 (CDT) From: Amy Moseley Rupp Subject: Re: seven-seas The Coral > no don't get the cd - I'll copy it for you if you like....then > you can buy it if you like it enough ....but go see them > live once you've got to know the tunes coz they are good > live once you've got used to the tunes.... I agree. I listened to the tunes kinda halfheartedly before I saw them live. Live, they have the electricity of a young band who knows they are gonna make it big -- they were not pretentious or stuck on themselves at all. When I heard the *same* songs live and watched the musicians, I thought "*that*'s what that bit is about." I'm going to listen to the new album soon and see what I think, but even if it's total crap I'd go see them live in a heartbeat. I also just love how they busked for change for hours playing live for people outside a bar in daytime during SXSW and no one recognised them -- and there were quite a number of folks from UK/Europe here! So they definitely aren't well-known magazine cover stars. They're young, they're cute, they've got plenty of bounce, and loads of Liverpudlian accent, defiance and charm. It usually turns out that I end up falling for people and things I say I hate with a passion -- because it's *passion*. The opposite of love isn't hate -- it's indifference. This means, of course, that I'm doomed to fall for the Horrorsonic Twee. :-) OTOH I've yet to fall for the far right or the Republican/ Conservative agenda, so maybe there is some hope :-) ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ End of seven-seas-digest V2 #517 ********************************
