I just spent a weekend in NY/NJ for a couple of shows and he was absolutely stellar. I wasn't sure what to expect from a solo acoustic set, but he was at the top of his game. The beauty and power of the songs shined through loud and clear. His voice sounds better than ever and he handles the 12 string quite nicely. He was joined by a talented friend from the Bellows, James Oakes, for about half of his set and it was very enjoyable. He did a couple of really nice new songs also, including one called "America" which had some pretty impressive laptop backing tracks assisting him. Cheers, all... IMHO - the thing about festivals is they are great for chilling out (in the sun, hopefully) listening to the music and sharing the experience with the crowd, people watching and getting away from all the normal shit things in life. Agreed, not the best way to see/hear a band, obviously the best place for that is an intimate venue. However, with festivals it's the overall experience of everything that makes it. The size of the crowd adds to the overall experience as oppose to the size of the crowd at a godawful place like Wembley Stadium which has no soul at all. Glastonbury really is special and of course if you don't want to go to the main stages there are other tents you can go to for that more intimate experience. We are definately going to try and go next year. Last time we went was before the fence and it was reported that DOUBLE the amount of people were there that should have been. That made it a bit scarey but now they have sorted the gate crashing element things seem to be a lot more chilled out and safer now. Macy Gray just made a big boo boo - she said Glastonbury, *London*, England!!!! :-O btw - I am very peed off that the Bunnymen did not get coverage on either bbc 2 or 3 but they have shown other bands twice - grrrrrrrrrrr....and the bbc 2 coverage sometimes clashes with the bbc 3. Now if it was sport, no way would they let it clash!! hmpf...... ( well, apart from the dance tent that is ) I have to *try* very hard not to murder all the English "bury"s into "berries." The easiest way for me to do it is to just say "bry" like a very fast bu-ree without too much of a long "e." We say any place name or surname with "bury" at the end exactly like "berry," or "bury" -- the two words are virtually indistinguishable in the American accent. I have an interesting link to an anecdote with audio by an elderly Englishwoman from Leicester and if I need a reference, she nails it perfectly ;-) I suspect you are suffering from creeping Americanism. :-( As in a BBC presenter saying "Glastonbury, LONDON, England." Uh-huh. In fact we were musing today about the fact that all our tech jobs are being exported to other countries and I was musing that we Americans would end up being burger flippers for tourists from the countries with jobs ;-) My coworker thought a minute and said, "Nah, we'd just go invade them and take them over." Hmmmm. To which I said "but North Korea has nuclear weapons." He didn't have a good reply to that, other than "oh yeah? Well we have MORE." At least I'll bet you don't have to suffer fools on the television who say "nuke-u-lar" instead of "nuclear." Argh. - --Amy ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 1 Jul 2003 20:07:09 -0500 (CDT) From: Amy Moseley Rupp Subject: Re: seven-seas OTOTOT Festie Bashing > If the only thing you are interested in is music period, then festivals aren't really for you.. I take it copies of the bootleg won't be needed then ?? Oh yeah, I want a copy of that bootleg! :-) *** I also want to see the picture of the seven-seas Three Musketeers -- Zap, Stu, and Matt! :-D *** I understand what you're saying about the festival -- it's great when that many people can get along. Some communities here in the US will pull that off with Fourth of July parades and fireworks, but most music festivals of that size are NUTS. ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ End of seven-seas-digest V2 #504 ********************************
