I'd love to take the kids to TO despite SARS (Scared Americans Reluctance Syndrome). Probably won't get to do that. Possibility of going somewhere in August. God, I can't believe I haven't even had a peek at how the Jays are doing. Hopefully before the end of the year I'll get to England. Tonight I'm going to a Harry Potter midnight release party. Okay, okay it's not a new *album* by a hot band, but I actually learned a lot about English vernacular by reading the books, such as "what the hell is a chipolata?" (spelling) The *real* books (from the UK) should be going in the post about now. I wanna see if Harry bags a chick this year -- maybe Cho now that her boyfriend Cedric has been offed. ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Jun 2003 17:07:57 +0000 From: "carlito way" Subject: RE: seven-seas OT summer hols; Harry Potter >"what the hell is a chipolata?" PS if you want some recommendations on what to do/see there, I can ask my mom, who's a huge Civil War buff, though she doesn't do re-enactments ;-) hmm, wonder if there's one going on when you'll be there? I don't remember if my Derbyshire/Chorlton g-g-grandfather fought there, but they came over from England just in time for him to have to fight in the war! Welcome to America, here's your rifle! ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Jun 2003 12:37:45 -0500 From: "Amy Rupp" Subject: RE: seven-seas OT summer hols; Harry Potter > >"what the hell is a chipolata?" Chipotle is a smoked/roasted jalapeno -- it's therefore hotter than a jalapeno. I love chipotle dips and mayonnaise. Chipolatas are a sort of cocktail sausage! Drove me nuts to find that via a web search. Everything I have learned about England has come from books, music, television and movies exported from there; from the kind folks on this list; and from asking a zillion questions of everyone I meet IRL or online. In addition, Matt was an RAF instructor for a few years, and is a good teacher, though he gives pop quizzes! I do wonder what percentage of the UK GDP/GNP is comprised of Harry Potter product! ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Jun 2003 20:19:36 +0100 From: "K.P.
