In the summer of 1986 (my 13th year), I went to visit with my grandparents in Hampton Beach New Hampshire. There's a boardwalk there that stretches miles. I fell deeply in love with this couple of high school kids who lived nearby and worked on the boardwalk. I would basically stalk them and lean on their counter while they worked making moonfaces and doe eyes. (The girl bought me a Doors wallet once, it was purple) I loved them because they were punks. I copied their hairstyles and clothes. I would write down the bands they mentioned, or wore on their tee-shirts. One day I got home and added Banshee & the Bunnymen to my list. I mowed the lawn for a week to make money and then I went to buy a tape by this band and was laughed at by the counter help, who eventually convinced me that I must mean ECHO & the Bunnymen. (or siouxsie and the banshees) On the last day of my vacation, I rode my bike out to the boardwalk and I strolled up to the counter and said "hey guys, wanna come over to my house after work? We can listen to Echo & The Bunnymen?" So after work we sat on my grandparents porch eating cookies and drinking lemonade, and listening to Echo & The Bunnymen, my new favorite band. HEY! This is MY webpage! http://community.webtv.net/mrimbach/mymusiccollection ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Jun 2003 00:08:25 -0500 (CDT) From: Amy Moseley Rupp Subject: Re: seven-seas how you became bunnified > On the last day of my vacation, I rode my bike out to the boardwalk > and I strolled up to the counter and said "hey guys, wanna come over to > my house after work? Too cool! :-) (ps: delurk more often!) What did your grandparents think of Echo? ;-) I guessed that the guy who interested me in Echo would like the Smiths on the basis of their being on the Pretty In Pink Soundtrack together. Also Siouxsie because she was on the compilation tape with Echo. I went to see Siouxsie live in '86 and that was the only time I dyed my hair (temporarily) black (I looked AWFUL). I also bought a Smiths t-shirt and wore it to the first day of class that fall. A couple of days later he wore one. Fast forward to our senior year and I borrowed his class notes to copy for a class. He'd scribbled in the margins and one of the scribblings was "Joy Division." A few days later and I asked him if he'd heard of them, and he made me a comp tape of them. He also had posters of Japan and Bauhaus. If I had to like a guy who didn't requite ;-) my adoration, I at least picked one with good musical taste! Maybe I should ask him what he listens to *now*! ;-) - --Amy ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ End of seven-seas-digest V2 #455 ********************************
