KFC OTOH has lip-smackin' fried chicken ;-) The one mishearing I have is from, coincidentally enough, Seven Seas: Burning my britches/witches And smashing my mirrors ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Jun 2003 17:22:28 +0100 From: "K.P. Oh, I believed you -- it's just that you didn't tell me what East Anglia *was* -- only what it *wasn't*. The only way to learn is to be corrected with the "right" answer. That was what I was asking for. So: Texas is the second biggest state in the US and the largest in the lower 48. (There are 50 states, with Alaska and Hawaii often separated out because they are not contiguous with the others; Hawaii is separated from the lower 48 by the Pacific Ocean; and Alaska is separated from the lower 48 by Canada). Our major export is oil and natural gas; we also export refined chemicals including a lot of petrochemicals. Our agricultural exports are significant and range from cattle to citrus fruit. You need a lot of space for cattle, and warm winters for citrus. We also export cotton, for which you need a warm and long growing season. We are the second most populous state, having just recently passed New York, but we may not ever catch up with California (I hope not). Texas centers around latitude 30 degrees north, which means we have less variance in daylength between winter and summer. In winter, the sun rises about 7.30 am and sets around 5.30 pm. In summer, the times move to 6 am and 8.30 pm, roughly, including the switch to daylight savings time. The five major cities are: Dallas/Fort Worth Houston San Antonio El Paso Austin (state capital) We are both a Gulf of Mexico state and a Mexican border state; we are the only state to be both, and our weather is unique because of the influences from the Gulf (southeast), Mexico (southwest), and the Great Plains (due north). The convergence of these three prevailing winds makes for interesting weather depending on how strong each of them is at the time. If you've read this far, you'll see that I've given a *lot* of detail; but it's more than most people want. A major reason that Matt and I are simpatico is that we both like detail on things we're interested in, though we differ somewhat on those interests. ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ End of seven-seas-digest V2 #448 ********************************
