United fans >hmmm....TLA is a TLA! Dunno if this is actually common outside of the Armed Forces. Absolutely everything in the RAF was abbreviated (even "RAF"!!) and we used to call them TLA's. If the phrase being abbreviated had four or five words then they were not called FLA's because FLA is a TLA, if you see what I mean, but instead were called ETLA's (Extended Three Letter Abbreviations!) Damn straight, which is why I want to go to our ancestral home of Derbyshire. There were no Southerners in my lines. Also Manchester. ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Jun 2003 14:39:04 -0400 From: "Chris Adams" Subject: seven-seas Gentle reminder Hey, could we please keep the O/T "hihowarya" back and forth one liner conversations to a minimum, please? You also stumped two of my work colleagues ;-) I think I knew this once upon a time, but.... FLA is Florida. That's why it can't be called that :-P And of course a *four* letter abbreviation would natchurally have to be called an ETLA. And a five an EETLA (extra extended...) and so forth ;-) Milspeak began the acronym craze, but it has taken over the computer industry as well. I'm working on an IDE that will design your GUI or help you code for NDO and PS2.
