Shhhhhh.... you are revealing your age! We used song lyrics in "English" class (I say "English" because you Brits say we do not speak or write English ;-)). We could use song lyrics as text to look for alliteration, symbolism, analogies, metaphors, and even parsed grammar. What's the difference between doing that with Never Stop versus Do Not Go Gently Into That Good Night? Of course, I don't know if that's allowed these days what with Enimem lyrics and all, but it sure made "English" more interesting. ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Jun 2003 12:07:16 -0500 From: "Amy Rupp" Subject: RE: seven-seas The Art of Mac aka Mac Art(hur) > i forgot the nudge nudge, wink wink portion of my post.... my > response was > fully in jest. Matt's an exception to that rule, but for example, Barry doesn't do it. So I note that and move on. Quote from _What A Girl Wants_: "We English don't show affection for *people*, only dogs and horses." ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Jun 2003 13:23:51 -0400 From: Red Subject: OT RE: seven-seas The Art of Mac aka Mac Art(hur) At 01:03 PM 6/12/03 -0400, you wrote: >i forgot the nudge nudge, wink wink portion of my post.... my response was >fully in jest. I'm actually a Yank, born and bred, but sad to say, I didn't listen to the bunnymen back when i was earning straight C's in math class. I found my hop a little later. But, I do remember my music class having a Human League poster in it, which, given Long Island, NY in the late 80's, wasn't all that bad a thing. It sure beat Bon Jovi... LOL, pride of New Joisey.... Longuyland, eh? I'm 35 and not shy about anything, to some people's dismay ;-) But you say "born and bred" and not "born and raised" which is the British usage ;-) I've heard that the Boston area (though not the LINY area) has retained more of the British/Irish idiosyncracies than anywhere else in the country (perhaps through continued heavy immigration). When I said I'd add ya to my "Brit list" I meant those that I know omit emoticons ;-) bu.edu is an old, old domain. We here in Texas fought the University of Toronto for ut.edu. Both ended up using utexas.edu and utoronto.edu respectively. - --Amy ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ End of seven-seas-digest V2 #432 ********************************
