Oh, I'm not a big fan of any of the other groups! REO Speedwagon's singer also has (to my ears) an *extremely* annoying voice.... "I've forgotten what I'm fighting forrrrrrrrrrrr...." when I hear that I think of our English friends making fun of the American guttural "r" but I also think "where the hell did this guy learn to sing like that?" Yes' bass player is awesome, but if I hear "Roundabout" one more time I'll also smash something. Journey was okay as a teenager -- a very YOUNG teenager. I actually had the sheet music for the one album that had "Open Arms" and "Don't Stop Believing" -- I thought the keyboard player, wasn't it Jonathan something? -- looked pants trying to rock out in an early MTV video. ELP I never listened to; ELO I liked "Don't Bring Me Down" but naught else; Kansas' "Dust In The Wind" is classic and I like the violin but can't think of anything else; and.... Styx.... well, Tommy Shaw was very young and cute, and the first pop song I taught myself by ear was "Sail Away" because it could be done with just vocals and piano, which is what I had on hand at age nine! Disco was all about partying and drugs and the sexual revolution and one-night stands and.... I *thought* punk was about not just railing against the music industry institution -- but railing against ALL institutions, especially the government in the UK. We spent a bit o time on that in History of Rock and Roll class. Rebel against everything - -- be an anarchist -- and just for you Henry ;-) I see early Smiths as far more punk than Echo ever were, not that that's what Echo was about. - --Amy ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Jun 2003 22:51:49 -0500 (CDT) From: Amy Moseley Rupp Subject: Re: seven-seas something to download... > > >Christ, if this thread goes on, I'll be banished to alt.rock.oldfarts... > > > > heehee! > > > > sorry bout the ONE line giggle...but that was good! ;-) > > Shall I create it for you Stu? > > alt.punk.oldfarts has a bit more punch to it, though ;-) PS isn't anyone who knows a lot about USENET and the difference between the alt.* hierarchy and the rest of the groups automatically considered an old fart and geeky at that? :-P - --Amy, 35 for a little while yet -- oh God this is baseline mammogram year.... ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ End of seven-seas-digest V2 #403 ********************************
